Shift Kit Question

Diagnosing a trans problem over the internet is like going on a blind date...

I have no idea if your guy's trans are behaving normally or not, Z, your's should really not downshift though, except at part throttle.

Then, it may just be in your head's, or maybe you need valvebody mods to get them where you want them. I wouldn't worry about the trans itself though, as long as it is shifting quickly and not hesitating.

the computer is in control of this.

it has set value for things like it will only down shift with so much throttle determined by the tps sensor and what speed your going.

A tuner can change all these values to make your car downshift when it should.

I always hated how my car would never downshift was it was stock..the damn thing always wanted to be in 3rd or 4th gear haha

well i'm plenty happy with my HD2 kit, i'd buy it again if I ever needed another one. Eventually i'll be looking into a beefed up valve body but until then, i'll stick with the transgo, no troubles out of mine

Hey J.R. I noticed on that site it comes with more than JUST the drilled valve body... would you be sending that stuff with the valve body or no? What are those other pieces that come in the BC kit

It's a tricky marketing picture, the accumulator in the picture would already be installed. And I wouldn't send you a filter, get your own, lol.

They were just things that people seem to "forget to mention" when you are doing things...
Which kind of gets annoying because if I spend all the time trying to do something then I realize... I needed one more thing and no one mentioned it... I wouldn't have known to get it.. *that kinda situation*
Not saying you do that, just speaking out loud.

And the filter I could get from like advanced auto or do i have to order that online?

You could get it locally, when you drop the pan, you'll need to change the pan gasket/filter/fluid, and when you swap valve bodies you'll need separator plate gaskets as well.

I could easily include all of this, but your price will go up as well. I'm offering the exact same thing as they are, for half the price, you won't find a better deal.

I don't sell a kit, I don't have a shelf full of valvebodies or anything, and I'm not here to sell stuff, if you want something specific, pm me and I can put something together for your needs.

OP. If you got the transgo in there... keep it in there. Don't go changing again. Also, a 4" cooler??? thats tiny... where you find that at? most of the coolers i would even think of using is like 12" or so... cooler the tranny the happier.

Why would you tell him that? Transgo shift kit's are like Patriot heads, for every one good story there are ten bad. And the one good story just hasn't driven enough yet.

Why would you tell him that? Transgo shift kit's are like Patriot heads, for every one good story there are ten bad. And the one good story just hasn't driven enough yet.

I look at it this way... he's knocking on 90k and he's just now putting in a shift kit... probably wont hold out much longer... but hey its just me... I got a transgo sitting in my room so who knows. If i had a new valve body i would send it to you j/r but i only got my old one out my old trans... unless the tranny's valve body don't wear... if thats the case i'll send you that one and let you jmod the hell outa it and i'll put it in.

They really don't, the accumulator's do somewhat, but you'll have to deal with those on your end. And in your particular case, you have a 98, so it already has the best accumulator pistons in it. Alot of internal part's don't really wear with proper maintence, like the bands, and the frictions. Those fail from hard part's failures usually. I replace them regardless, because they are cheap, but I've pulled bands from 200k+ 4l60e's that still had good friction.

A properly orchestrated set of valvebody mods will make a trans last longer, not fail sooner.

But maybe I wasn't clear enough on the Transgo, they steal pressure from the band circuit to feed the converter clutch full time because they removed the bypass for it. This leads to a slipping band, which in turn leads to heat, and failure.

alright well at this point Im chalking this TransGo Kit off as a loss and Im going to replace it with the BC valve body. The trans cooler I purchased was from rpmoutlet and I purchased the 4 inch cooler. It wasnt too expensive and I will replace it with something larger if you guys feel it would be a good idea. I would go with the BC valve body and be done with it. I have never heard of anyone having problems their products. Darrin is a good guy and he will set you up with what you need.

Yes, but you will have to pull the accumulator springs yourself when you remove the valvebody.

Stacked plate coolers, like the DeRale I linked to, are the most efficient. On a stock trans with a Jmod or kit, there's not that much extra heat, so it doesn't matter so much, but in a performance rebuilt, with extra clutches, Alto clutches, Kolene steels, etc, they build more heat, so cooling becomes more important. Converter's also add in heat, my brother runs two of those cooler's on his Bronco.
