1st off, I don't know anything @ all!! I was wanting BBK shorties for mine, so I pulled up theirs on Summit. It says the shorties are $299.99. LT are $449.99-529.99. Again, I'm not even going to BS this info.

The biggest regret I ever had for my old h/c/i foxbody was that I didn't go with Long Tubes, I had FRPP shorties, O/R x and 2 chamber flows. The car sounded awesome but didnt have the bark!

i have looked into this lots from what i have found shorties keep more low end grunt and long tubes give you more top end pull but both will allow your engine to breathe better

all that said and done if your modding your car at all long tubes are the way to go

from what i heard i would def. suggest them too. what led me away from them is the thought of the nightmarish instal process. dont even want to think about it. lol

here we go again!

Lt's: you get lil more HP, car performs better as the engine breaths better, sounds badass.

the downs of lts some poeple dont like them because is "hard" to install so they say and you have very lil room to work under the car.

the only thing shorties are good for "IMO" is to have room to work under your car, engine breaths lil better.thats it.

IMO Longtubes or nothing.

I'm pretty sure dyno testing have shown LTs to increase low end over shorties too, assuming you keep the 1 5/8" runners. Engines respond differently though so results may vary.

Longtubes are a pain in the ass to install. Sometimes they leak and if your starter goes to hell you gotta remove the LT to get to it. There are other problems that I can go into but with that said I would do long tubes without a doubt.

You can still make good power with shorties. I made around 440rwhp with some boost and passed california smog.

Ahh they're not THAT much of a pain to install/uninstall but after doing longtubes on six 96-04 Cobras putting longtubes on any car seems easy as cake lol.

The whole swap is soooo much easier than the 32 valve cars, so longtubes all the fuckin way!!

shorties are cheeper and easier to install. they also off a "rhaspier" sound. The performance benifits are nominal. Equal length are the only ones you should even consider. these are difficult to install (id give them a 7 on the 1-10 scale) but possible.

long tubes are more expencive. they offer better low end torque and overall better performance. they are a hassle to install (9 on the 1-10). they provide a deeper, meaner "drone/rumble" sound. These are what you buy when you require every last HP. They bottom out on speed bumps as well... these are what you SHOULD buy for a good exhaust set up. the sound is better, the performance is better, and honestly its not like you have to take them out after you install them...

Avoid BBK... Mike will tell you about his BBK headers... they welded the inside of the plumbing to make them "pretty." this restricts flow. SLP makes a premium set up.

Don't forget about smog since you live in the bay area like I do. LT's are not smog legal and having just an x pipe with two cats is now illegal in California also! I know of at least 4 guys which had a smog tech check for 4 cats. If you are not making big power since LTs won't provide a huge increase in power in a stock setup, it comes down to sound. Is it worth it to have to pay someone to pass smog every two years just for a meaner sounding car?

In my case, I have one car is setup with a non emissions cam, head, blower, manifold...etc and it's worth the trouble of LTs. But I do have another car that is similar to what you have currently and for me it's not worth the sound/performance to have to pay someone every 2 years for a little more torque and hp. At the end you are paying off a car that's has the power of a stock car but sounds nice.
