Should I fix my car?

Sooo I'm kinda sittin here and have no car of my own to drive right how. I have everything I need to put my car back together.. But I was gonna wait until I got my new shortblock to install everything so I don't have to rebuy all the gaskets and stuff again.

But now my Jeep is sitting at the warehouse with a leaking water pump, and the grand am is chillin next to it with I dunno wrong with it.

All I have to do is remove the dipstick from the block which is proving to be quite a challenge but after that it's clean the block, and reinstall everything. And then put the 3.55's in it and get everything put back in place on the rear end. Should I do it? And then buy all new gaskets again when I get the shortblock? Or should I just wait it out and hope I can get my shit runnin? I'd LOVE to buy a new car but financially I cannot so that is not an option

Just kinda curious what you guys would do if you were me. And at this rate I'm not sure how long till I'll get the shortblock. This Jeep has turned into a $300 adventure for a used radiator, new hoses, new t stat, new water pump, and coolant.. And the 6.0 PSD is killin me at $4.20 a gallon for diesel. $100 in the past 4 days lol

The long term goal is to get all 3 running... Why? Because my family owns 7 vehicles and right now 2 of them are driveable. I need to have backups for when one dies I can go to another while fixing it.. I know it sounds ridiculous but honestly I've had 2 vehicles go down in the SAME day. With the black cloud that hangs over my head.. Having the extra vehicles isn't a bad thing Belb.. Believe me..

Lol wellllll the thing is the Mustang is chillin in my garage so realistically I can work on it whenever I want. Whereas the Grand Am and Jeep are down at the warehouse where I have to be at a certain point in my projects down there to work on my shit lol. So I dunno man. I'm thinkin of just throwin it together, biting the bullet and spending the money again when I get the shortblock

Thanks Belb that's kinda what I'm thinking of doing now. I wish I would have thought of this a while ago, not wait till all 3 of my cars are dead, but awhile ago I had it all figured out. Then shit got changed again

To be honest, besides it taking up space I got rid of my Jeep because I was trying to have a toy as a daily driver. The second you mod your daily driver it becomes unreliable IMO. Just from my experience and from another friend of mine who has the same issue, just get your grand am running and reliable. If not get rid of it and find something that is.

BUT I vote to fix your car because they have potential to be extremely reliable. I know you're trying to kill two birds with one stone but all you're worried about is re-buying gaskets. The cost of gaskets can be made up in the savings in gas since you'd won't be driving the diesel.

I'd drive that Jeep. I mean, you've got to fix it or you're going to take a huge loss when you go to sell it. And a waterpump is a ton easier to fix than putting the top end and rear end back on a Mustang.

No brainer, how can you possibly ***** about the jeep when you are only spending $300 for all that and can have it done in a few hours? Fix that, then think about dumping the grand am altogether (not like they are hard to find to replace it and they don't cost anything)

Now back to the mustang, since the rear end has nothing to do with the short block (and will need to be done eventually anyway) why not do that now then decide what you want to do about the motor when done?

I vote yes too. A car that don't run may as well be paperweight. I hate it when my cars can't be driven. I guess that's the trouble of having 3. One breaks you drive the other, that one breaks you drive the last, then you have 2 that need work. The third dies and it gets expensive to fix 3!!

My heep is bone stock mechanically, it just has the lift, big tires, and an exhaust. O and an intake. But yeah man I totally agree once you start modding the reliability generally goes way down, which is why I haven't done anything to it other than drive it. And man you guys are right on with that much. I didn't realize driving a diesel cost so much more lol holy crap. I guess the $300 spent now would make up for the saved gas.. That I agree with 100%. 21mpg and unleaded or.. 14-15mpg and diesel..

Well I'm definitely going to fix it, it's just a matter of when. To be honest its just one of those things that why you try to fix it so many times and it fails, you just want to go work on something else until your ready to come back and deal with it again. I'm just tired replacing that thing right now lol. The mustang would take probably a full day to reassemble if I tried hard enough

I'm no so much *****ing about it but just tired of it because after removing and installing the thing 3 times I'm just a tad bit done with it right now lol. I'll come back to it, but not until I have the patience to deal with it. That's all man

The grand am may just be a bad o2 to be completely honest.. And if thats the case I'm going back and shooting for the 200k mark. I already replaced head gaskets, lower and upper intake manifold gaskets, and removed the dexcool from the system, so the GM curse has been lifted

And yeah good call there. Like I said the rear end should take no time at all, after you do it once the second and third time around become a lot easier. Then if I get bored in the middle of the night (which happens almost every night) I can go out and work on the motor. Just gotta get that stupid dipstick out... Lol

^^^^^^ Exactly Rich!! I couldn't agree more man. My first one went down and I went to the second. The second went down I picked up a third.. Now I'm stuck with the third and it's gettin rather pricey!

Well, I read the op and some of the responses......Reminds me of my self when I was 23 but I had 7 vehicles and only 2 of them ran....

It is cool to have 3 or more vehicles, however, in this case, you really only need 2. One daily and one toy. Get rid of one of them and use the extra money to take the car you keep to a shop and have them fix it. I understand wanting to fix your own cars, however your daily is the car that you cannot afford to have go down for more than a few days. The Mustang is your toy....turn the wrench on that with the time you save.

To answer your question, just fix one of them, what ever that one may be. You will want to get better gaskets for your new shortblock anyhow.
