i am going to be pulling out my dash soon and was wondering if i should replace my heater core while i have the dash out. is it a lot more work to replace it? how much more stuff do i have to remove to get to it? do these commonly go out; my car has about 200k on the body but i have no problems with the heater core yet.

If your dash is out id say yes. BUT make sure you do it right and make sure its a OEM unit (dont cheap out) or it will start leaking on you.

I think they usually go before 200k that's for sure, maybe its been replaced?

It was very simple on my old T-Bird once I had the dash out. There should be a plastic lid on top of the box that hides the core. Just make sure to use some silicone around it when you re-install.

Mine is bypassed right now, and i'm looking for a good reason to remove the dash so I can replace it. What's your reason?

I realized when was working on the motor I would need a nipple for the water pump, then teh hose and then connect at the fire wall. I started thinking, this motor is sealed already, fack it I dont need heat. I will still have a blower to move the air but doesnt need a heater core for that, or coolant in there for that matter
