If the first shop didn't install the clutch right they should be fixing it for free... it really does sound like you're getting boned.

Can the new shop prove the clutch was installed wrong? If they can, then you might have a case

you need to have the NEW shop call the first shop and explain what was done wrong, and that it WAS NOT abuse. tell the new shop manager that you dont feel comfortable letting the first shop re-do the job and see if the 2 shops can come to the agreement.

i personally would ask for the original shop to atleast pay the cost of the new clutch/pressure plate, that alone should save you $300...

if all else fails see if he will do the install using your parts, with the many vendors available to our community you could probably save a bit there. thats IF the original shop is unwilling to do anything.

i'd be willing to bet that the original shop will change their mind about re-doing the job after hearing from this shop..

:crybaby2: :crybaby2: :crybaby2: I just got a call from the shop, and they basically told me to sit down and be ready..

The clutch, on top of being installed WRONG, (wtf I know right?).. the disk itself was cracked ruing the install and got everything out of alignment. (The rattle).

He asked me how many miles I had been driving it, and when I told him 2500 miles, he flipped **** and told me it wasn't wise to even drive it down to his shop.

On top of needing an entire clutch job, the flywheel is warped, the rear main seal is leaking all over the shop from the harsh clutch vibration, and all 4 brakes are shot.

I've got an 1800 bill coming my way + whatever else the guy finds.

Remember, the shop that installed it is brets autoworks, and I took it to anderson automotive.

Give me encouragement!

did they actually show you the damage?

Ok taking it to a garage is toally who is doing the work and what is being done. Working at a dealer I see it all the time, when someone tries something, replaces 3 parts and then takes it to us with the orig problem and other built in issues from "tinkering". We sponsor a guy who runs an SCCA SRT4 Neon and the guys is a KILLER driver, super talant, but at no point he should (and he knows this) NEVER EVER work onthe car. some of the stuff he has done, he has totally killed.

What im getting at are some people love the cars and everything about them, and some people love them but should NEVER work on them... maybe this kid is one of them...

A cracked pressure plate? Say i want proof or GTFO. When you start to mod a car, you BETTER have the basics understood or you're in the wrong hobby. Unless you have cash to throw around. Seriously. It's almost next to impossible to install a clutch wrong, and if they are working in a shop, I'm sure they installed it somewhat right. Get your KY out boy, I think you are getting taken for a nasty ride.

look guise..

this info is based off a quick 3 minute chat with my dad, while driving with 2 loud girls, on the highway, up and down hills losing reception.

once my dad gets home, im going to ask him to explain exactly what is wrong, because manual transmissions arent my strong suit..

That's why I said, if you want a modded car, you better know how to fix it, if not, spend $60k on a corvette or GT500 and be happy :).

I can tell you a shop isn't going to want to do that because that creates unnecessary tension. Another shop isn't going to take well to criticism, and the OP seems to have taken it to someone who is screwing him over again.

This. It's 6 bolts on the flywheel and something like 6 bolts on the pressure plate. What brand clutch did they put in?

Your 1000 dollars for your engine rebuild could be saved if you realized shop number two is putting in your butty and overcharging you.

Re: so i found out whats wrong with my clutch.. (read this!!)

i would love to see how the old shop installed the clutch wrong because its pretty idiot proof because the transmission wont mate up to the engine if everythign isnt lined up unless they got it in there and just pulled the tranny to the motor using the bolts without lining anything up. i mean come on clutch kits even come with an aligning tool if they put the clutch in without using it they are morons.

also it sounds like the new shop is screwing you too. i would get a written statement from the new shop and take it to the old shop with the estimate and ask they what they are gonna do about it because they clearly did something wrong. also i wouldnt have driven the car off the old shops lot of the clutch was shaking badly and doing what you described

Hey it sounds like your in a bad situation 1800 is astronomical, I just started hearing the signs of a throwout bearing goin out so i called a couple shops and the best price ive found so far is 480 to replace the bearing alone(all labor) and 825 for replacing clutch and all. I called my dad and asked for a hand yankin the trans to do it myself the clutch im goin with is the Fidanza 1.0 as this is my daily but the cost of clutch, resurfacing the flywheel, pizza and more importantly beer is far less than what the shop is going to screw me for. Kid do yourself a favor part it in the street put it on stands and get to wrenchin. All this shop talk is making me think they think you guys dont know what your doin, talkin about and that you guys wont push the issue. If you dont want to wrench then you need to get on the phone and drop a few f bombs, and get that first shop to cover all expenses or say you will go to the better business bureau. At least thats what i would do. Good luck bro

its going to be $1100 for a clutch job, flywheel resufaced, things like that..

as well as brake pads all the way around.
