simple pi/gear question

ok. so by running a 4.10 gear, I need a higher rpm range right such as doing a full pi swap? and by running a 3.73 I wountnt need to rev out as high? am i right, please correct me if im wrong. I am really confused because I get the feeling that my car is over geared being a npi head 4.6 5-speed with 4.10 gears

Gears help get into the powerband faster....but too short of a gear, say 4.56s in a NPI gt would definately be overkill.

4.10s in a NPI car should be fine even though the RPM range is a bit shorter....

but you could put 4.56s in it if you just like to shift...lol but you wouldnt really be going anywhere...

I guess there is no way to have too much gear but my NPI didnt seem all that much faster if at all when I went from 3.08s to 3.73s.

I honestly felt like it pulled harder with the 3.08s....

ok, but i thought the full pi swap yeilded about 7k rpms vs npi wheezed out at about 5.5k rpms

ehh, more like NPI weezing out at 4500 and full pi weezing out closer to 5500

exactly! i also have 4.10's and a 5 speed and mine falls on its face @4500 rpm's!! I need a pi swap bad......

i think that was my point, it seems like my mustang falls on its face horrilbly

yea...so 4.10s will only get you to where your car is falling flat on its face faster :dontknow:

haha, my car with the blower and pi intake+ full bolt ons, long tubes, still felt like it was falling on its face up top.

Without the Pi intake and PI cams combo the NPI still has no topend.
