OK reivaxtorres, now I have a rather good question. Without the OEM plastic wheelwell vent fittings

w/ the downward facing "slats" to help keep rain water out. How do you keep water out of the ductwork and

the inner fender when driving in the rain? Looks like you left just drilled holes by the pics. Did you only buy

the ductwork and not get the plastic wheelwell parts as well? GT

good question, and no, i didnt just drill the holes for it. i purchased the factory ducts from a 94/95 mustang and swapped them out from the 94/95 lazer red vents onto my black vents, as seen in pics #5 thru #8. these ducts fit perfectly flush with the inner fender, but i suppose (and i didnt think about it when i was installing them) you could add RTV all around the factory rubber gasket (the part of the duct that touches the fender) to insure you dont get any leaks. although RTV would make it more of a permanent thing. i suppose you could also use grease....(grease doesnt provide a permanent hold, but it is waterproof so it wont let any water leak thru) as it sits now, i washed my car and tested it, doesnt seem like there iis any water that is getting past the factory gasket.

Man for all these years I've been thinking & telling people they are fake scoops & non functional! I wondered what those vents were in the fenderwells one time cleaning mine...now I know ...thanks!

I understand the ductwork part. I'm wondering about the plastic parts that install from the wheelwell side.
You see them when you look into the wheelwell. They look like "mini" shutters. They are shown earlier in
this thread.
These appear to go in the wheelwell and fasteners, of some sort, go thru them, thru the wheelwell sheet
metal and into the inner ductwork sandwiching the sheet metal between them.

ooooo, ok, i see what you are talking about now. i just re-read your question and realized i misunderstood it. your talking about splash water getting into the vents from the wheel when the car is moving.

this one i solved rather easy. i figure when the car is moving at a decent speed, there is too much air getting pushed thru it for any water to get past the air going out. as far as the water maybe dripping down and getting into the holes after the car has stopped moving, this one is easy as well. what i did was mark where the duct on the inside touches the fender sheetmetal. what i did was drill a hole on the very bottom of it, where it semi-exposes the rubber part of the duct. this way, any water that goes in will drip down to the bottom of the duct and just drain out. this way, no water collects and stays there.

My 96 GT has vents on both sides that work. Though I don't see it being all that functional really since it doesn't shoot right at the brakes.

How the hell are the vents made to cool the brakes? Have you ever even looked at them? At BEST (which is a joke) they vent/cool the rear tires.

and lower the ambient air temp of the wheel well which in turn cools of the brakes. just because the air vents are aimed at the tires doesnt mean that it only cools off the tires. and yes, i know, on the streets its pointless to have these as they arent very effective, which is prob why ford got rid of them. on the track (autox) they are beneficial to have.
