So i had my rear brakes changed 3,000 miles ago (6 months).

Today i had my car in at the new Creditmax Automotive Of Sacramento and they where telling me my brake pads in the front and rear are below min. specs. They want 787.89 to fix it.

Why?

If your rotors are warped they need surfaced. If they get surfaced or replaced most shops will do pads too so they bed together.

Your brakes may look fine, but if you're getting a vibration with braking, the rotors are toast. I didn't know you cant surface drilled/slotted rotors, but I guess it makes sense. If you want to do it on the cheap, go to a parts store and get all 4 rotors and just swap rotors. The dealer will RAPE you on brake parts, I payed almost $200 for a rotor once for my truck. NAPA makes good quality brake stuff if you want better than 'cheap'. I take it those are ebay cheapie rotors? Cross drilled and slotted is just for bling anyway. Get some good blanks on there.

LMFAO.. wtf those pads are brand freaking new. I would go back and ask them wtf with a new station reporter crew.

The rotors though are supposedly 1 time use only. I reused my rotors without resurfacing them and have no problems.

good eye Rich. That dealer sheet didnt load on my phone... if you're getting a vibration when stopping something is up. At the low price that most pads cost, it'd simply be safer on their part to replace them (at your cost) after resurfacing the rotors (or replacing the rotors) than to put the old pads broken-in with bad rotors and risk you coming back for similar problems requiring them replacing them anyways (at their cost)

Almost $800 to fix? Damn. You can do all 4 corners yourself with mid-good parts for like $300 less

i have brake pads (OEM quality) for all 4 corners, ill sell them to you for $20.00 + shipping.

get all four rotors turned for $10.00 each. bam. less than $100.00 fix.

dish out an extra $40.00 on fluids and consider the brake system completely serviced.....

be sure to use anti-squeal goop on the pads! :)

Dealerships charge a lot for brakes. Those pads look fine, but if its shaking like they indicated, then they probably will have to resurface/replace the rotors and new pads too. 800$ sounds about right, but you can do it yourself for much less if you have the oportunity to do so.

Hahahahaha....I'm in the wrong business! Find another shop and get a quote. How do they KNOW the rear rotors are warped? Did they use a dial indicator? Doubtful..... Is there a reason you're not doing the work yourself?

Theyre going to "say" the rears are warped because of the pedal vibration they list on the quote lol.. The pedal is going to vibrate with the front rotor warped. Lol

They say they test drove it but my mileage was only 1/10th a mile more then when i dropped it off. I don't feel it shaking. I took it in because the rear brakes where squeaking. Also there not cheap eBay slotted rotors either. I paid over $60 for the Warner pads. When i had the brakes done it had a fluid changed, new rear caliper brackets w/pins, one new caliper.

Once a rotor is warped, the grain has changed. You can shave the top but the grain is still warped under the new flat surface. OEM rotors are so cheap why bother with old shit?

If you can do your front bearings, you can do rotors. Some people, if I ever caught anyone stealing anything of mine I'll shoot their ass. Ask the guy I caught siphoning diesel out of my truck that hauled ass with a couple 00 pellets in his back.

Find a member from your area who is willing to help you do it. Forum guys are usually pretty tight nit and willing to lend a hand to a fellow hobbyist.
