so the other day while driving my car just shut off on me while driving and refused to start back up. i just towed the car home and the next day i went outside to try and start the car and it fired right up and idled perfectly for like 30 mins. rev'd the motor a little and everything looked good. i shut off the car and started it back up and rev'd the motor up to 3k and then motor shut off again. i was like what wtf the car was just running lol. anyways im pretty sure that it is an electrical issue sense just did a tune up and have perfect fuel pressure. i was thinkin that maybe it could be the ICM but my mechanic was telling me that possibly it could be the ECCS? just wondering what u guys might think it was? oh forgot to mention the alternator and battery are good also the car does crank just doesnt start. i also need to pull the plugs to see if there firing.

to just replace the pip
you'll need to remove the dizzy first. the gear on the bottom has to come off then the collar then the shaft slides out the top.
To make sure you put the gear and the collar back on in the same position you'll need to mark them in relation to the shaft.
You may need a press to get the shaft and collar off.

Funny, This same thing happend to me the SAME DAY(yesterday/last night). Car just shut off, no sputtering or anything, just like someone hit a switch and it shut off and would not start again. No spark from coil, tested 2 (stock) spare coils i had in the trunk and still no spark. Will try out the distributor next. While I'm at it I might just pick up some aftermarket plug wires from the store. I see alot of stores carrying the Accel 8mm spiral wires. What wires do you guys recommend? Sorry to thread jack.

most aftermarket wireset are 8mm and so are your stock wires. go with FRRP wires if you get any, they fit the best and only like 50 bucks. any idea what makes these MSD boxes fail?

Swapped Dizzy, car fired right up. Was struggling bad to start but then realized i had only one side of the motors plug wires connected. Dizzy was from an F150 with the ICM plate but no ICM module so its a lil weird and the timing is a bit off now but this is only temporary. I'll get an aftermarket dizzy and order the plug wires.

Not exactly sure what causes it. People say keep them away from heat(engine bay) and any kind of moisture so I hear you put them under the seat or behind firewall in the cabin to lessen the wear and tear. But I've heard and read MANY stories of them failing, yet some people say they've gone for years with no problems. I would like to get one to see the benefit but since I'm not running F/I(yet), I really dont have a need to spend money on one, however if I find one at a decent price i might try it out.
