What do I know. I never got past the first page but I see it now. I still think that a part that is so critical to the engine should not be chosen based on dollars alone but rather on quality. There will be a reason why it's not SFI certified. But, hey, it's your engine so feel free to do as you please.

Wait... is there anything you guys are conveniently leaving out about this balancer that I should be aware of? You know, how when I asked if there were any drawbacks to advancing the timing and yall said no, its just free horsepower and gas mileage? And now my car overheats.

You probably advanced the timing too much. Each car is a little different in what it will take. 12* advance is not usually a problem but 14* is problematic. Where did you set yours and are you reading it correctly?

Yeah I'm reading it correctly and I have it set at 13. Guess I could always back it off and see. But are there any... effects, either good or bad, that I might notice from a better balancer? I'd just like to know now.

If you advance your timing its highly recomended that you run high grade gasoline so its no really free horse power. you might have an issue with the sniffer if your getting your car smog . And if your balancer already has ruber coming out of it your timing could not be accurate

It didn't have rubber coming out when I timed the car. I had to crawl under there and make a little mark on the balancer.

You posted this originally three days ago. Are you still driving around with a spun balancer? If so, stop quibbling over stupid stuff in this thread, go buy a balancer, and put it on your car before your wreck your motor.

Just notice how EVERYONE has told you to change it, the only thing debatable to your application is which one to go with. There's no debating wether to change it or not, it will eventually wreck your engine

This does not require "working out some details." Go buy a balancer, rent the tool, replace the balancer. Be done.
