This is a really really depressing read... I have no idea where to start and I have this exact same problem... I really don't want or have the money to go throwing a distributor in my car right now. I HATE MY CAR.

Okay... I see distributor mentioned several times, but here's my question. When I try to refire the engine, I have no power at the coil, so how is it possible that it's the distributor that's the problem?

Do you have a chip in your key? If the sensor goes in your steering column the car will turn over but not start.

Well... when I got the car I could start it without the key... the ignition has always been screwed up, but it hasn't caused a problem, apparently until lately. Perhaps that is my problem.

I'm pretty convinced my problem is either in the key cylinder (it's broken, hardcore) or in the ICM... hopefully.

IF you got a set of small punches to remove the roll pin in the dizzy gear, you can just get a new pick up for the bottom and rebuild the dizzy yourself. There isn't much to it...just keep an eye on the bearings when you pull the shaft out. Its WAY cheaper than a rebuild. I have a spare in my shop actually...I think they're less than $30

yea i had mine fixed and the shaft had so much run out that it blew a rotor apart (and i didnt fix it i had my mechanic do it) better off getting a remanned one if you have never done this before

Ha, i just said f**k it, when i pulled the distributor the rotation was really rough and tough to turn,
plus the seal i guess had gone bad because the removed distributor revealed a large oil spot on the engine.

So i just replaced it lol, but the cheaper the solution the better, if you do end up wanting to replace the whole thing though,
which i decided to do because the thing was probably 12 years old, DONT go to a ford dealership! They wanted $418.00
just for the frickin distributor! Didnt even come with the cap or rotor! I just did the replacement myself it was pretty easy,
If youre willing to get a little bit greasy you can replace your cap, rotor and distributor itself for under $150. Another thing you
might wanna check out and get tested (@ autozone) is your ignition module. Its only like $50 itself and most likely contributed
to my problem as well. So yeah, easy fix man, just grab a buddy or a relative with a little bit of know how and it all can be
fixed for a little under $200. Dont fret. :)

Until then i suggest (if your problem is identical to mine) NOT driving ANYWHERE in the stang. Get a ride where you need to go
or use another car, cause breaking down and getting stranded sucks and can be very expensive.

*Edit* - Also remember to mark off the rotor and the distributor before you pull it to stay as close as you can to the original timing. :)

Oh, I have no problem workin on the car myself, and I found a couple of dizzy's cheap... (my car has not seen a dealership or mechanic since I've owned it).

And yea, I know the feeling on driving it at all... I drove it home from work yesterday and it died 4 times... once in front of my driveway which just served to piss me off so much I just pushed it into the driveway and left it... I haven't touched it since then.

Replaced ignition switch, swapped coils, no difference. I was told to swap the ICM and when I did the car decided not to crank at all. The starter solenoid engages loudly and the car does not crank at all... I'm seriously at a loss... help me! :help2: :help2:

You replaced the ignition control module? Underneath the mass air? Cause you may have gotten a faulty one,
you want them to test it at autozone before you buy it (if thats where you got it), cause i got a bad one when
i switched mine out so i just went back and they gave me a new one and i had them test it and the first one they gave me failed.
Try that, cause after you switched out the ICM if the car isnt starting at all then i'm guessing this is what happened.

And what coil did you replace? The pickup coil INSIDE the distributor? I would just cut your losses and grief and
replace the whole damn distributor and make sure you get a new one man. I spent the little bit of cash and shes
been purrin like a kitten without a hitch for the past two days. Try it, i have a feeling it'll solve your prob cause it
sounds JUST like what was happening to me.

I swapped out the ICM with a friends that I know works. But as far as all that goes, why would it not even be cranking now? It just clicks.

sounds like a dead battery now, or a starter solenoid.

Battery is brand new (and not dead)... the solenoid clicks hard, but the starter doesn't engage... it just clicks and nothing.

I took the day off from it today because it has me stressed to the point of blowing something up. Tomorrow I'm yanking the starter to check to see if it is dead or not, and shall go from there... UNFORTUNATELY, it may have to see the shop for the first time since I've owned the car, because I just can't seem to figure it out.

im pretty sure i can solve your problems!!!! i had the same problem with mine, it was the ignition module you'll have to replace it. its mounted to your fenderwell, located under your cold air intake . but first try unplugging it then plugging it back in to see if that works. but you'll want to replace it
