Went to Auto Club Speedway yesterday for Open Tracking. $200 for 4 x 25 Minute Sessions. Needless to say, I'm physically exhausted today :laughing5:. Had my family out with me so I got some good pictures, even bought my own garage for the day :icon_rr:

The day went extremely well, with no issues from my car. My brake pads are toast though, I'll be upgrading to Porterfield brakes as soon as I can. They are much higher quality than Hawk brake pads but cost a little more $$. Only had one problem during the 3rd session, ran a little low on fuel and during NASCAR Turn 1 & Turn 2 the car started to starve, pulled off the track before I ran out of gas though luckily.

There were a couple of close calls with accidents though. Viper GTS (the first generation) spun going into the chicane right after NASCAR turn 2, I needed a new set of underwear after that because he tried to pull back out in front of me when he spun (he was facing the wrong direction). Avoided that accident. Next accident was a BMW owner (figures) that spun the tires coming out of turn 6. spun right in front of me, I was right on his ass, slammed on the brakes and watched him do a 360 right in front of me, and almost got rearended by a G35 :confused1:

I was catching up to everyone in turn 7, 8, & 9. I outbraked everyone, hit the late apex in 9 (decreasing radius turn) and had a lot more momentum on the straightaway, enough so that I blew by an evo 10 (have pics of the passing progression).

Favorite part was turn 1 & 2 (Nascar corners). You're pulling so many G's around that corner its insane. I was hitting 140mph at the end of the corner, most everyone else was lifting off because they were "out of the comfort zone" which they drilled into our heads during the hour drivers meeting in the morning :laughing5:. The TKO was definitely the best decision I've made for this car, the closer gear ratios kept me right in my power band :headbang:

Two accidents into the wall though and that's it. One was a Mazda 3 that was heavily braking and tried to turn thus resulting a spin into the wall. Then in the last session, the Evo 10 lost control in the last corner before the straight and went straight into a wall, totaled his car, and the run was cut short.

Thanks to my family and friends for the support, it was a great weekend and it if weren't for them it wouldn't of been as fun nor would I have so many cool pictures

I've got 104 pictures of me on track, this is just a small amount :laughing5:

haha, sorry the spoiler stays. I think that's really the only reason why my rear was so planted in the nascar corners as well as in the braking zone for the chicane right after the nascar turn 2.

not at all. it stays the same as it would in normal day to day driving. There's still plenty of cylinder wall since we spec'd it to ford's 4.2 (from the f-150) so there's not even a difference in temps really.

thanks man. I don't think I could ever do drag racing haha. Too short of an experience to really enjoy it. This was 2 hours of just straight racing, in my opinion nothing is better than that.

nice man. and yeah one of my brothers' friend's races a sport bike professionally. He's going about 150mph on the straightaway that most of the above pictures are on. and I'm going about 100 tops haha.

Thanks again man and the car looks okay, it's a little bit beat from the weekend before. I used to have SVO side skirts on the car (see sig) and those got ripped off by the dragon teeth and it tore a hole in my exhaust too...

Nice pass there at the end!

I'm jealous, my last time in a race car we closed Riverside...

thanks man.

It's never too late to bring your car out to a track event. www.speedventures.comhttp://

they are a very organized group and run the program flawlessly. Hopefully I see you out there one of these days.

That looks like a great time man...I would much rather do this then auto-x with cones...

Car looks agressive, have you thought about different wheels? I feel like Saleens aren't the best racing wheels?

You should really look into signing up with NASA. It's only 40 dollars a year, and you get a lot of great benefits with it. Cal Speedway with them is 330 dollars for two days, which is a hell lot cheaper than Speed Ventures, and you get just as much seat time, and way more student/teacher attention. Another thing you will get a benefit of by being a NASA member is you get a 20% discount of any Porterfield Pads. I've recently switched from Hawk HP+ to Porterfield R4, and they are absolutely fade-proof. I ran them very hard at Big Willow last weekend, and they held up like a champ under some very hard braking.

Nice pictures overall, and I wish I would have made it to Cal Speedway this year, but I've been dealing with overheating, so that set me back from running it.

auto-x is where I started. It's probably the best thing I ever took a part in because I react much quicker on the road courses than I did beforehand. It makes you learn how to multi-task :)

I appreciate it man and yeah I know. Having 40lb rims w/ tires is not very racing friendly haha. My car is a work in progress currently. I'm only 19, paying for college, car insurance, etc. These things take time. :)

already a member :)

I just took the car out because I had an itch to drive it hard. As you can see I'm lacking a roll cage, harnesses, a good seat, no R3 Device, etc.

I'm planning on getting a lot of the work done this upcoming year, and i'll be getting in contact with Agent 47 and seeing if they can help with the build up of the car. Their shop is 20 minutes away from my house.

By the way, another reason why I love porterfield is that they're local out here, racing there Camaro in NASA competition. So they're out at the track if I need the support. I'm building the car for PT, hopefully it'll be ready by 2011.

A47 is some serious stuff. Rocco switched to their setup earlier this year, and I know a few people who've been running their SLA and prototype 3 link for a while now, and they are loving it. PT is fun, but I've had my heart set of SpecE30 forever now, so that's where I'm going eventually, as soon as I get my license. I'll probably start building up mustang eventually, and just pick up an E30 and start working on that pretty soon. You should come out to SOW event in december with SpeedTrial. I'll Pm you when registration opens up. It's a blast

the first major purchase for my cars suspension will be that double a-arm suspension from A47.

But my priority at this point is this:

engine refresh (30k miles of hitting redline with the 4.2, things are getting worn down.
Roll cage (my car feels naked without some sort of protection)
suspension, rims, & tires
aerodynamics/paint

I'm bringing the Mustang home to SoCal in a couple of weeks. I'll get with you and see what's up. I don't want to go full race, and I don't want to go to all the hassle of putting a cage in a DD. I just like to go fast sometimes (still).

I hear ya. Speed ventures is for everybody. There's stock cars out there, you just need a helmet and that's all. The next event at auto club that I'll be going to probably is in october.

If you're going to come out, I highly recommend at least a harness bar because I'm sliding all over the place in my corbeau forza seats, especially in NASCAR turn 1 & 2. The stock 3 point doesn't really hold you in well.
