since I got the 3.55's and am trying to save some money for the install, would it be a better idea to go for a speedo gear instead of a speedcal? gear = $10 on the steeda website and speedcal is $100..

I know the plastic speedo gears will be stripped over a while, but I can buy 10 of them for the price of a speedcal.. and I just read in a magazine that changing them is a piece o cake..

Also, any good places to buy these speedo gears online? I need the black one for a manual 5.0 with 3.55's right?

I went with a speedcal. It was a PITA to install (apparently the PO had one in my car and RIPPED it out, seriously -.- ) but just because of my situation. Plug in a few wires and you're done. Plus, all you have to do is change some settings if you get different gears. And never worry about stripped gears lol.

I won't be getting different gears lol, its already A LOT of money to get this set installed.. The speedo gear is also a very easy install, or so I'm led to believe.

yup really easy to do. 1 bolt to get the speed sensor out of the tranny and a clip on the end of the sensor. And the plastic gear slides right off.

With 3:55s it's easy to do the one gear. With 3:73s you have two gears and to take the tail section off the transmission to get to it. :crybaby2:

I was thinking about getting 3:55s as I don't get traction in 1st or 2ed on motor right now let alone on spray.

get the speedcal, its easy to install, and you wont have to worry about ever checking the plastic gear for shredded teeth. plus, a lot of guys on SVTP that have the speedo gear also say that the higher up in the MPH rage on their speedo they get, the less accurate it reads.

A gear is easier than a speedcal IMO, I didn't like mine that well. I'd go for the gear.

Been running a speedo gear for years and still no problems at all *knock on wood* For 3.55s i believe you need the white 27 tooth.

i think a couple of the 5.0 guys had 3.73's, a lot of the mod guys had 4.10's+

it wasnt really any set group of people in particular.

Yeah, the only one you can fully correct for with swapping just one gear is 3.55s, anything lower the MPH will be off the faster you go.
