So my speedo is really starting to act up a lot lately. When I take off, it will stay at 0 mph, then jump to 104 mph. If I beat on the lens it comes back down, but lately it won't even let me do that. If it gets up to 104 and I slow down, it usually keeps going around to the back side of the needle. When I speed up again it drops back down to 104.

I've read a little that the whole cluster needs to be replaced. But the odometer works fine, it is strictly the speedo, and I don't want to have an odometer mismatch. Any thoughts???

Maybe your car is just that fast? Haha, I'd poke around at the wiring behind the dash, look for corroded grounds and such. I was told by my father that old solder can crack and make instruments work intermittently.

Mine does the same thing. I pulled my cluster out and added a piece of card stock (thicker paper found on the back of note pads) to act as a shim on the under side of the connectors.
It seemed to be better for a while, but the speedo and tach is now acting up.
BTW the odometer/ trip can be removed and transfered to the new cluster.

The odometer works fine, If I drive for a half hour with it at 104 mph, it does not add 50 miles to my odo. Its strictly the speedometer. I also have a speedcal mounted on the firewall since I got 3.73's a year ago....

Got it fixed, bought a cheap instrument cluster off ebay <$50. The guy said he didn't know if it worked selling as is. The odometer gear was all busted up, I'm guessing he knew that, but I only needed the speedometer motor. Pretty easy swap, just had to recalibrate the needle.....
