I have a 94 gt, 5 speed, 3.73 gears. I had my tomtom out and its showing im about 13mph off. My car reads faster than its going. Do you replace a speed sensor? If so which one to get and does it go in the side of the tranny? Also im guessing it has threw my mpg off because i checked it today and im getting 23mpg. I normaly wouldnt worry about it, but there are too many people getting pulled over here lately.

The difference in speed gets worse the faster you get. You're not always going to be 13mph off at any given speed.

Anyways, there's a couple way to fix it. You can either get something like a Dallas Mustang Speedcal (what I have) or swap out the gears on the speedometer. I went with the Speedcal because I've heard none factory gears don't hold up very well or something like that and at the time I wasn't sure if I was going to be keeping the 4.10s.

I've replaced the plastic gear in the end of the speed sensor.
You need a white 23 tooth gear.
Mine has lasted 4 years so far.

yep, you need to get the correct speedo gear to go with the new rear ratio.

Except there is no correct gear available for the 5 speed with 3.73 gears. The 23 tooth white gear is close but doesn't mesh well with the drive gear and will chew the teeth off over time. If accuracy is important you will need a recalibration unit such as Speedcal.

I didn't think you could get a speed cal for 94/95...

anyways a white 23 tooth gear should work fine but it's made for 3.55s so your speedo will still be a little off, it has nothing to do with it not meshing correctly.

I don't know if that's correct.
I ran a speedcal for years, but when I swapped to my 5 speed (TKO), they got the correct gear for it and took the speedcal out.

It's a small module that plugs between your tranny speed sensor and your speedo. You just input your old gear ratio and your new one through some small switches and it does all the work. It gets power from your cigarette lighter. You can get it directly from DM, which I believe are sponsors to this site, might get a discount if you ask

If that's the case why does the 23 tooth gear get chewed up. It has everything to do with the

They may have changed the drive gear.

Just switch out the gear on the end of the speed sensor and change the shaft driven gear on the output shaft. LRS sells the "kit" with all the clips for a fair price. Look in the 94-04 section of the 5.0Resto catalog. Did mine years ago.
