well tell me something... if its no more than a stock rebuild how can they get the 3200-3500 stall out of it? and is it around or a little better than the stock converter??? if so i think it would be worth 200 and at least last me till i can save up to get one of those converters that cost like 800 bucks :'(
Anyway, i'm not to savvy on the converter thing but does ones like that have the lock up or no? My stock one has lasted me 160K so i don't think a rebuild would be that bad, exspecially looking at how much power i'm going to be makeing...
What you guys think?
I understand your situation dude, I've been there, but don't bother with Ebay no-name converter's. I bought a 700r4 from a company called Monster transmission for my truck. It was like 1200 bucks, when normally built one's cost's around 2400. So I bought it like a fool, and was soon parted from my hard earned dough. The trans lasted about 1500 miles, just a winter driving truck, not a hardcore offroader, up and down the road pretty much. On tear down I found it didn't have most of the "beef" part's it was advertised to have. It was in a weaker car case vs a 4x4 case, the reverse input drum was visibly warped, you normally need a straightedge to tell. And ther converter was full of trash. Now I build my own 700r4's
The converter can be made into a higher stall on rebuild by just bending the fins down, that's how they did it back in the day.
I would recomend you swap the five speed in and save your dough for the converter you want. But get a quality one, you'll be money ahead in the long run.
