So a buddy I work with just picked up a old ford mud truck and it came with a couple engines, one of which is a 1970 429, Dove A block, Dove A heads.. I just bought it lol So I am going to pick it up this weekend and start playing with it! Comes with some goodies too, MSD distributor, comp cams drag cam, roller rockers and was told it comes with a carb too. Only major piece missing is the intake manifold and the only damage is a cracked timing cover ($70 new) and a little surface rust on the crankshaft which I won't be using anyways :) Planning on doing a 521 stroker kit (.030" over)
I've been looking all over at what is involed in a big block swap... its definitely happening lol I'm sure it will be at least a year or so before any of that happens though.

So basically I'm just excited to start building this motor and wanted to share it with you guys! Pics will be coming this weekend. Anyone else ever done a big block swap on one of these cars?

congrats.
You could probably sell it to a 69/70 Mustang restoration guy that doing a Boss 429 and make a good chunk o change.
A BB swap in an SN is going to be a big job I would think.

yeah, I am definitely not opposed to selling it to make some cash lol but I think I'm gunna build it lol. The big block swap is pretty involved... but projects are fun.. right? lol I'm going to use a swap kit from D&D auto. http://www.ddautospec.com/products_engineswap.html
Might run a motor plate up front to make it a little easier to adjust engine height. Not sure what I want for a trans yet. C6 isn't too streetable, TKO600 aint cheap lol
But overall, looks like quite a few people have done this successfully with some minor headaches along the way.

No, this will be in my car lol I don't really have money or real for another car at the moment. But who knows what will happen by the time I have an engine and trans put together!! The plan as of now (which I'm sure will change repeatedly..) Is to build the motor n trans, buy the swap kit & driveshaft, and buy a 88 Ranger 2wd lol Then hopefully, ranger will be the daily driver while I put the big block in the mustang and when thats done.... mustang drivetrain swap into ranger lol Then I have 2 toys haha
