Strange Noise

For the past few months my car has been making a very annoying and strange noise. When I am either going up a hill or on a rough street, even when I take off fast it sort of sounds like a creaky bed spring. It is really annoying and I have moved around the exhausts and it isn't making a difference. Anyone ever experience anything like this? Its a 95 GT if that helps.

put it on jack stands and check for worn out bushings?

Have you had anything done to the car lately?

I did offroad Xpipe and Cold Air, but thats it. When I bought last year they added 3.73's and Mac Catback.

I'm not to try and jack your thread, but I'm experiencing a similar noise in my 94 5.0 when I give it a good bit of gas from a stop. It's like a quick scraping, bed-spring noise (like laserred mentioned in the first post) and for some reason I only notice it in 1st and 2nd gear... usually by the time I hit 3rd and 4th I can't hear it. I can't tell if it's coming from the engine or from underneath the car (suspension).

On a somewhat related note, I am also getting a grinding / metal-on-metal sounding noise when I hit a bump, or when more weight is in the car. I'm pretty sure that has something to do with the driveshaft, but I'm not sure of the solution... if there is one. Then again, these two noises could be related.

sounds like both of your problems are caused by old worn out suspension bushings.control arms or sway bars

Not likely... I just put an Eibach Pro Kit Plus on my car (sway bars, shocks, struts, springs)... so it better not be that. I also have MM upper and lower control arms and subframes.

My car seemed to be making the same bedspring noise a few months ago. Ended up checking balljoints and sure enough that was it. Try lifting up and pushing down on your front fenders to duplicate the noise. Otherwise jack up under the control arm (i used my spare tire jack) and lift up on the tire using a pry bar, if it seems to jump, thats a telltale sign.

In both cases it seems like a suspension noise, like was already said, check all bushings/joints etc .

You guys lowered? If so check out the drive shaft for shiny spots where its been rubbing on the exhaust or the e-brake cable and or bracket.

Yeah I'm lowered. I actually posted in another thread talking about the e-brake cable on driveshaft issue... I suppose that could be causing both noises I'm hearing :dunno:

I don't have much experience with cars this is actually my first car, can you visibly tell if a torque box is bad? How can you test it?

You'd have to pull out the rear and check them that way. This gives you an excuse to weld and brace the torque boxes too. They're notoriously weak in our cars.
