have you tried adjusting the clutch at all. just because it sqeaks doesnt mean its bad yet. if you dont have a firewall adjuster then i highly recommend getting one to fine tune the clutch adjustment. thats what it sounds like to me.

but if it was the clutch wouldnt the noise stop when the clutch was disengaged?

it sounds like a loose mount to me. Like you need to tighten a bolt somewhere. The vibration of the car seems to be rubbing metal together somewhere and thats the squeal. If it was anything tranmission related it would be rpm related. Check your transmission mounts and what not.

i put on the nut i was missing going onto the tranny mount through the crossmember, but it still makes the noise

took the belt off, still makes to noise :wall: this cars starting to piss me off

i'm going to mess with the valve adjustment tomorrow, becasue the sound may be coming from the valve cover. its too hard to tell for sure. the last thing i want to do is take out the tranny

ALL of you missed the MOST IMPORTANT PART of his discription....

Its a VACUUM LEAK. I had it too when I replaced my motor. It was one of the big vacuum lines on the back of the manifold that wasnt tight enough. I added a hose clamp to it and walla.... fixed. Check them all. But you'll find it.

That very well could be my problem. I'm going to check that first thing in the morning.

Holy crap - I think you're right Anrev. I don't know why I didn't think of that before. I had the same thing on one of my old motors - the gasket between the upper and lower wasn't perfectly sealed and it squealed like a pig. That would also account for non-RPM-related noise.

Good call. I'd bet that's it.

Paul.

Isn't there a trick with propane to see if you have a vacuum leak. I thought if you sprayed some propane around you vacuum lines and if the cars idle went up you had a vacuum leak. It's worth a try.

Re: Strange Sound -- *Please HELP* [video]

well so far i pulled off my intake and covers. I re teflon taped the oil separator fittings, tightned all of the clamps for all vaccum lines and just basically went over everything. I'm about to re-adjust the valves (needs to be done anyway) and a couple of other little things, then i'll put it back together and see where i'm at

Re: Strange Sound -- *Please HELP* [video]

today i pulled off the intake and covers, re-adjusted the valves, checked all of the guide plates for rubbing, checked all vaccum lines, re-teflon taped everything, and put it back together. I also replaced the autozone alternator with another new alternator, and it STILL makes the noise.

i jacked the car up and listened to the noise from under the car, and it really sounds like the tranny.

I cant get to my tranny guy till monday, so we'll see then i guess

i believe if it was a vacuum leak wouldn't the car run like crap all the time, especially idle?
my car does the same thing as he is describing and it doesn't sound like a hissing vacuum leak,
and it has no idling problems, doesn't run funny, nothing, it just makes the noise once warmed up...
my curiousity is overwhelming now...

Re: Strange Sound -- *Please HELP* [video]

ok well i've looking into it some more, and i realize is cant be the tranny. If it was the tranny, when i disengage the clutch the noise should stop, right? well it doesnt, so i have narrowed it down to 2 things: the pilot bearing or the rear main seal, which are both brand new.

tomorrow hopefully i'll be able to pull the tranny off, check the bearing and the main seal, and possibly replace them again. if its neither of those 2 then i am out of solutions

Re: Strange Sound -- *Please HELP* [video]

For me it was the line from the PCV. Mine didnt run rough either. Just made the funny noise. With the engine running, start messing with the lines.

Look at this way. It doesnt happen at start up. Vacuum takes a few secs to build up. When you step on the gas, it goes away. Because you loose vacuum. And when you shut down, everything stops EXCEPT the noise. Because the vacuum slowly goes away. I sounds like its coming from the tranny because the PCV is right above the bell housing.

Its your money.... but Im sure about this.

i actually jacked the car up and put my ear to the bell housing, and thats where the sounds coming from.

like i said, i messed with ALL of the vaccum lines, and nothing. i am thinking its the main seal, b/c it kinda sounds like rubber on metal, but we'll see tomorrow

Did you check the gasket between the upper/lower intake? That's where my leak was and it makes ALL KINDS of noise.

Paul.

yeah i pulled the intake off to get the covers off

when i put the intake back on, i checked all of the vaccum lines under the intake, the pcv valve, the gaskets and spacers, and all was good.

I don't know if the lower intake gaskets would make that noise if they were leaking, but did you re-torque the lower bolts a couple of times after heat cycling it?

Did you check when you pulled the tranny to make sure the imput shaft that the TO bearing rides on wasn't all gouged up? Ford put Aluminum shafts on the T5's, but you can buy the upgraded Steel from any ford dealership, or parts place...
