Stupid ass clutch cable...

So i get off work about 11 today, i'm driving down the street to meet up for PT, i get out of the gate on base and onto the road... get about 200 yards past the gate entrance, push the clutch in to shift into 3rd, and i hear a "POP"... well, i've been there done that before, so i knew what it was, i threw the car into nuetral and coasted it into a parking lot, as soon as i parked, pushed the clutch in one more time, and it snapped... this is the second clutch cable since August... i snapped the clutch cable that was on the car when i bought it in April, replaced it, and now this... my car has only been on a flatbed twice, and both times it was a snapped clutch cable... anybody got any idea's WHY this could be happening? I really don't drive it hard... i don't slam the clutch to the floor... I can't figure it out... maybe my car just Hates me? I'll order another cable tomorrow off Summit. anybody recommend a clutch cable for a '95 GT with a T5?

Same thing happened to me before, replaced it, good luck so far..did you grease the cable? Stupid question but I figured I'd ask

where is it breaking at? Did it break in the same place both times?

don't know... was so pissed i waited 3 horus for a tow truck, that once it got int he driveway i didn't mess with it. I'll find out today. pretty sure it didn't break in the same spot though. last time, when it broke, it snapped and hit me in the leg. and yeah... i did grease it.

ur using an oem non adjustable cable right? if not definately get one. lots of people have had problems with aftermarket adjustable cables

No need to call a tow truck when the cable snaps. Just shift without the clutch and avoid stopping whenever possible. When you have to stop, shut the car off. Put the car in first gear and use the starter. It will lurch forward and fire again, then keep driving home. I've made it over 20 miles using this method. :hammer:

Definitely go with Ford OEM cables, they are by far the strongest and least prone to snapping. I went through 2 in a year when I had my UPR triple hook quadrant, I switched to a Steeda quadrant almost a year ago and I've been fine ever since. The UPR quadrant has sharp edges and it seems to pull the cable at a shitty angle which breaks the cable.

I have a had a clutch Fail But never a cable snap.

OEM clutch cables are superior to aftermarket

I've got the UPR quadrant, and i've got a factory Ford cable... both cables were factory Ford cables... Paul... that's a negative... thanks anyways though. lol

this, by the way is a different clutch than when the last one broke... the last cable broke in August last year, the tranny was replaced in October, and now the new clutch cable snapped this last friday.

I can almost gurantee your UPR quadrant is the problem, get another Ford cable and switch to a Steeda double hook quadrant, problem solved.

The only nice thing I have to say about UPR is that Danielle is pretty hot, I haven't had luck with any of their stuff though.

I'm willing to give it a shot, however the first time it snapped it was on a Griggs single hook quadrant... this one was on the UPR quadrant... so maybe my car just hates me as i previously stated.

you cant adjust the clutch cable too tight because it will snap.... it need a little freeplay for things to move. Remember than when a clutch is spinning fast under WOT, the clutch is designed to push harder on the flywheel.

Yes sir! Makes for an interesting trip! I've done it more than I care too. Thankfully, it was never my own car...haha.

As for the UPR triple hook haters...Which hook are you guys setting the cable on? That quadrant was designed so they could replicate steeda's patented double hook....they threw a third one on there that really SHOULD NOT be used. I've had my UPR quad, adjuster, and cable for 3 years now with absolutely ZERO issue. Make sure the cable is routed correctly and adjusted properly and you should have zero problems.
