ok so i know this is gonna sound real noob but i was given a airraid throttle body spacer for my gfs V6 2000 mustang. I heard awhile back that for some reason some guy installed one and the car never ran right after the install of the Throttle body spacer. Maybe he didnt seal it against the intake right and got air being sucked in and thats what his problem was but Is it just a straight forward install or is there specific steps i should use???

I was going to say there shouldn't be anything to it ha.

You probably won't notice anything, but for the price of free...who cares.

TB spacer is a complete waste. They don't do anything but at more hot metal for the incoming air to touch and heat up. I'd take it off and throw it in the trash where they belong.

Didnt spacers like that used to actually work with carb. setups or something?

I dont think they do shit for our cars but I swear ive seen some tests on big block carb setups see power gains with spacers on hot rod tv lol

On a carbed eng. a longer intake runner increases some top end power at the expense of bottom end pwr. You can also install a heat shield in between the carb and intake to keep some of the heat from reaching the carb

Huh.
I was always under the impression that longer runner = increased torque at expense of top end HP, and shorter runners were better HP and reduced torque.

You're correct.

putting a spacer right on top of the intake under the carb is not increasing the runner length. it's increasing the plenum (neck) volume, necessitating more velocity to take full usage of the extra volume in the plenum. basically the same concept for a plenum on the 4.6. the bigger you go the more top end you're going to have and the less bottom end you'll have.

now if you had a spacer between the heads and intake, that will increase the runner length boosting low end torque.

Yea, I doubt you would ever notice a difference on a 200 hp v6 mustang though, maybe when were talking 400+ CU in big blocks making 500+ hp

VAP Auto makes intake manifold spacers for v6's. the gains are small but they are there. my v6 picked up about 7rwhp and 6rwtq in the bottom end. as far as plenum spacers or tb spacers, I agree, they are pretty much worthless on a low power car.

Yeah, my little single port reacted nicely to the VAP spacer. That small mod was very noticeable. Best bang for the buck.

High rise intakes make top end power, Low risers make bottom end power.
