I was just reading up on some new exhaust for V6'ers...Some of the dual exhaust adapter kits look simple enough, but I cant get the idea that it isnt "true" dual exhaust...Anybody have anything to add?

the dual exhaust adapter is a great way to get a ''true dual" exhaust. it is mainly for ease of installation.

there are 4 types of exhausts:
H-pipe: (the exhaust adapter creates this from your existing stock exhaust)
X-pipe: raspier than h-pipes
y-pipe: comes stock on v6 mustangs, some exhausts systems for v6's come with "duals" that attach to the stock system (these are what owners generally consider "fake duals" because it still gores through a single pipe before branching back out into two pipes)
Divorced pipe, this is when the pipes on each side of the car never cross between each other. these have to custom made.

some people only consider the Divorced style to be real "true duals", but in my opinion you could refer to any of the exhaust styles as true dual other than the "Y-pipe kits".

i have a Divorced type with Magnaflow mufflers on my v6

Thanks! I was reading something on the site, and someone was unhappy about his H pipe sound. He said that the divorced pipe is what he wanted but was afraid of HP loss...is the H the most HP?

there is no real difference in HP increases, its all hype. "supposedly" X-pipes give the most performance, but the difference would be unnoticeable on a near stock v6. i felt no power loss at all when my exhaust went on.

its all sound preference, H-pipes tend to have a deeper sound, x-pipes give a more "exotic wail" and Divorced gives a decent combination between the two.

Yeah..I am just torn between my first mod. Im either going to do the basic mods (CAI, Pulleys, throttle body) near the same time, or go for exhaust.

definitely go for the exhaust. CAI doesnt help much but it looks great under the hood, and sounds pretty cool. ive hear great things about pulleys, with people actually being able to feel a increase in power. throttle body is a waste of money unless you are making more than 300rwhp on a v6.

i would go in this order:
Exhaust
Pulleys
CAI

and skip the throttle body all together

Yeah my pulleys are a bit rough, matter of time before the belts need to be replaced anyways. So If i get a sudden burst of money haha ill do the pulleys and exhaust. Just not a big market on the V6'ers =l

you would be surprised how much of a market the v6 has.

tell me a part for a v8 that you think isnt offered for a v6 and i am pretty sure i will be able to find you the v6 equivalent

Super Six Motorsports has Heads, Cams, and full engines. AM for the small stuff like CAI, and pulleys and suspension. Summitracing, Jegs, Latemodel restoration for stuff like exhaust. SCT tuners from VMP tuning. RPMoutlet for superchargers and stuff of the like.

is there anything specific you cant find?

I think you covered it. Thanks!

your welcome

if you have anymore questions, dont hesitate to ask

for the exhaust, try to find a good exhaust shop and get an estimate for a custom exhaust consisting of either h, x or divorced pipe and whatever type of muffler you want. alot of the time they are cheaper than buying an exhaust online.
should cost around $350-400 installed for you run of the mill H-pipe with Flowmasters. if they tell you that they need to relocate brake lines or that dual exhaust wont work on a v6, say "ok thanks" and walk out of that shop and never return. they dont know what they are talking about

alright one last thing...Emissions lol. self explanatory, no?

as long as you dont remove any of your catalytic converters it will legal. if you have a shop make you an exhaust, dont worry about emissions, they will keep it legal
Alright thanks!

Defiantly go for the exhaust first. That's what i did. First. then the pully's & coil pack. I defiantly see a little better gas mileage.

a coil pack wont do you any good unless your current one is broken. and if it is bad, a stock replacement one will do fine. multiple 3.8 owners who make over 300rwhp still have a stock replacement coil pack
