I have a 6.0 Powerstroke that has decided to poop the head gaskets out :crybaby2: :crybaby2: :crybaby2: I was just wondering, I know some of you are dealer techs and whatnot, if anyone has changed these, and how did you do it? Cab off or motor out? I think cab off may be easier for me since I have a 2 post lift in the shop.

I guess I'll have to go in and fix everything Ford effed up on this truck.

I have read cab has to come off either way pulling head or pulling engine. I have also seen snap on tools, probally others, makes a tool that claims you can leave the cab on and do the work.

Every time i go into a ford dealership garage i see the cabs off. Its a PITA, but possible to do. Do yourself a favor after you get this done.. sell the 6.0 and get a 7.3. The 6.0's are nothing but problems, and a PITA to work on. My brother's 2004 6.0
had gone through;

2 turbos
4 egr valves
4 egr coolers
2 water pumps
2 head gaskets
1 inter cooler
etc etc etc...

Dont get me wrong, the international 6.0 is a great engine, but after ford put all the smog crap on, it ruined those engines.

Pulled the cab up last night, took about 5 hours.

Deleting the EGR, doing ARP studs, should be buttoned up tomarrow if I get the heads back today.

To be fair, most people I know with a 6.0, have no problems. Keep the EGR cleaned and it'll probqably be fine. I didn't, I also tuned it and pushed 36 psi through it. Still irritates me a bit, but hey, what are ya gonna do?

Yeah thats why I just took it off, it was 5 hours of fairly easy work, and pulling the turbo, egr and everything else was as easy as sitting on the framerail and wrenching.

250lb/ft is the spec for ARP studs on this thing...Wow!

WOW.. must be nice to have a lift :)

Yes and no... Since I pay 800 a month for the rent on the shop and have to live in it, no. If I get to make a living doing what I want, then yes lol.

I would probably never attempt this lol.

It was really easy actually. 5 hours of easy work that made for 4 hours of easy wrenching on the engine. Kinda like dropping a K to do longtubes.

I'm waiting on new seals and bearings for the Turbo, which I ordered since the heads are not done yet.

6.0 Powerstrokes are kinda like NPI's, problematic, not alot of part's, and kinda hard to work on lol.

But with enough effort and money, fast, economical, and reliable. This truck is actually my dad's though, mine is a crew cab, and willprobably get the same treatment soon.
