I'm interested in learning about supercharger options for my 5.0. The only major downside is that I have NO way to get this car tuned other then a mail order chip. No tuners will mess with mustangs here in Holland, and I'm not expierenced enough to start tuning my own car with quarterhorse or tweecer right away.

I know a lot of you are anti FMU, but this looks like the only option for me. I'd like to know your opinion on the matter.

My goals for the car: fun/reliable streetmachine with daily driver properties. I'm not looking for 400+ madness. drivability and realiability are most important.

most mail order tune guys will work with you on your tune and allow you to do a road test to check a/f and all the only thing is you'll have to have a way to data log so you can send it to your tuner

i would invest on the tweecer or quaterhorse.

if you run the car with not tune, is completely worthless.

Have you thought about a wet kit? All you really need to do is pull some timing depending on what shot you go with and maybe switch spark plugs and tighten the gap a little.

No, don't like giggle gas. Not for a streetcar anyway.

a lot of bigger tuning companies have done tunes for thousands of applications and they can get it close but it'll never be as close as a tuner putting it on the dyno and tuning it

true, but that's out of the question unfortunatly..

What's a good way to go with mail order tune? SCT 4 bank? moates chip?

SCT is really the best option as far a chip tune goes. The problem with obd1 crap is the fact you need to drive the car and see how it reacts to the different variables.

Dave used him. He was happy. I don't think it's going to be that different

Yea i used the mail in from SCT when i first put my blower on, but my air fuel ratio needed to be adjusted, so i just got it tuned by a shop..

I wouldn't trust a mail order tune with obdI. If it was obdII you could datalog, send the file to the tuner, and he could send it back so you could download it...then repeat until the tune is spot on. With obdI the tuner would have to have the chip to make changes and you would have to have the chip to datalog....

It sounds like an fmu would be the way to go in this situation. Just pick up a wideband so you can monitor the a/f and datalog. Keep the timing set on the safe side (possibly lock it in) and check your plugs for detonation. It won't be ideal but it will work. GL with whatever you decide

people over at the corral seem to agree that a supercharger on a stockish 5.0 with FMU is ok as long as you stay with the stock boost levels... or is this just with fox computers?

Dude ill be completely honest with you. Ive been running my car with no FMU or no tune at all for the last 2 years. I know my car will benefit from a tune. But ive never had any detonation issues, never blown a head gasket, car still runs strong. I even have aluminum heads and havent had any issues with them lifting or anything. I have a Diablo chip in the car from when i got my motor done for the cam but that was a long while ago and well before i added the blower. ONe thing i will add is that if you start messing with the Injector size you will need a tune or a different MAF, and your car will do weird things. I need a tune bad but i never get around to it.
