ok so i found a guy thats parting out a 95 gt and will sell me the engine and all components for 750 bucks..
The car has been totaled in the rear and has a bent frame so hes parting it out.
The car has 20,000 original miles so i figure that this is a pretty damn good deal.
just curious on how hard this swap will be and if its possible just to swap the motor and components or will i need more stuff like the trans and all that good stuff.
I've asked a couple local mech. and they are giving me two separate opinions and prices....
If anyones ever done one of these could they tell me what exactly im getting into, how much time its gonna take, and a price range in parts/labor besides the engine and components im getting...
The trans in the car is an auto so i dont want to swap it cause i got a 5speed.
Also if it is possible to do the swap with my trans is mine gonna be able to handle the 5.0?

Thanks

I believe the manual trans in the 5.0's and 3.8's are the same just different gearing. It would handle it.

Why not sell it and buy a v8? j/c

I've done a swap before and you can use the v6 5speed but need 5.0 flywheel, clutch, bellhousing, spacer, and all the bolts for these. They all differ from the v6. It does have lil' difference in the gears but will hold up fine as a daily driver, unless your racing it or mod your engine. You should get the complete 8.8 rearend also. The motor will need all accesories, hoses, wiring, air duct, throttle body to oil pan, motor mounts, and exhaust system. You will also have to get a T4MO computer for the 5.0 with a manuel trans, you cant use the one in the auto 5.0. Thats all I'm remembering now but the 5.0 speedo goes to 150 mph and 6er only goes to 120 so you might want that as well.

with everything needed to do the swap, the time involved, and the headaches associated with this you are better off selling the v6 and buying a V8

not trying to steal the thread, figured it could help us both.. with the v8 swap, using a 120mph gauge cluster. will it read correct? or will it be way off?

It all depends on the speedo gear in the trans...if its a match to the gear set in the rearend. The speedo gear is very easy to swap and cost 10 bucks from LRS. Also, it is a job to do the swap but I enjoyed it and did it in a weekend, I did have all the parts and tools ready before I got started tho.
