My syncros are taking a dump. I’ve heard there’s an additive that I can put in to buy me some time before I make my decision on what I’m going to with the trans. Is that true?

I don’t know about an additive but valvoline or royal purple Synchromesh works really well. What year is your car, and what trans do you have?

What makes you say it’s synchro trouble and not a clutch adjustment issue?

96 gt. 90,000 It “zings” between gears and the car was set up for drifting and I was talking to mustang guys and they feel it’s most likely due to romping in it. He said worldclass t5 are good but can’t take a beating like that

If you have a 96 gt, it’s a t45 not a t5. The zing kinda does sound like too much gap on the synchro blocker ring. Give the new oil a shot and see how it treats you.

If it has newer synchos (it was rebuilt before) the carbon fiber material on the synchros can respond well to some friction modifier like used in rear axles for the carbon fiber clutch packs. As I have read, the products like synchromesh have a small amount in them.

I installed Royal purple Synchromax. Helped out much smoother but trans needs work but good for now.
Trans is a a T5.

4.6 Borg Warner trans
Then you definitely have a t45. The t5 came in the v6 cars and the pushrod 5.0 cars, the t5 also has a detachable bell housing. The t45 has the modular bell pattern and the t5 has the pushrod bell pattern.

The only way the t5 could be behind a 4.6 is with a custom made bellhousing.
