I have a question regarding noises in my cobra.

It's pretty much stock except for a filter, lowering, and B&M shifter. Also, clutch was recently done (previous owner) because the TOB took a dump.

I notice and feel gear noises most noticably in 1st and 2nd gear. You can also hear things turning and mashing when it's in neutral with the clutch out.

My old '94 (T5) used to do this aswell, but that one also rattled apart in 3rd and 4th gear above 3000rpm, because the gearbox was shot to bits.

How much of these noises are normal? I'm worried because I know what happened to my T5. But maybe it's normal for a mustang with a short trow on there.. that's what I want to know.

I changed fluids to redline D4 ATF yesterday which helped very little with the noises, but shifting became easier. Also have a cobrabob gasket waiting to go in.

Does hte car have a short throw in it? if it does i can tell you there is going to be a bit of noise no matter what depending if they put the stock boots back on or not. there are also could be a few other factors the oil change helped in mine i put royal purple syncromax in mine it cut down on the noise. Also does it have anything adjustable on the clutch system ie quad, cable, or firewall adjuster? i know if they are not adjusted right it can make some wierd noises also. main thing to do would be to figure out a way to put some sound insulation in the shifter area.

all the stock insulation is still there, the rubbers etc. Stock boot en FRPP knob. Just a B&M shifter.

In neutral with the clutch out and there's still noise? That's what bothers me about your question. I know I have a little bit of hissing while driving but I also cant hear much with my clutch chattering. How did the old fluid look? Sometimes if a tranny is on its way out, the old fluid is what still holds it together....Try installing that gasket and see if it helps at all with the noise, also if you're really not having any shifting problems then I wouldnt worry about it too much.

thanks, it shifts just fine! Used to pop out of reverse sometimes when cold with the old fluid. But that's normal and hasn't happened since the fluid change.

Fluids look good, no metal shavings nothing. Just a lot more dark and mercy compared to the lemonade that went back in.

Well thats good b/c usually when a manual trans has bad problems you can actually feel it. If it feels good just makes weird noises, it's just a t-45, get that cobra bob gasket in there and call it a day.

Mine does this a well... I also have a B&M ripper shifter...

I know for a fact that the box in my Cobra has a weak 2nd gear Syncro(cant slam into 2nd.) Original fluid/clutch/94k miles courtesy of the PO...

That being said, my perfectly mint shifting T-45 did the same thing in my old GT as well so i consider it normal... had brand new flywheel/clutch/pilot/TOB in there as well...
