Ok, should be doing my 5-speed swap this weekend. Trans is coming out of a low mileage '94 with a 3.8L, going in a '98 high-mileage with a 3.8L auto.

I have a complete donor car, so additional parts won't be an issue, and am buying a completely new clutch set before I start.

My question here is, do I need to do anything special to make this work properly? The speed sensors are the same between the two, and I can use the driveshaft, flywheel, pedal assembly, etc. from the donor car... The thing I'm not sure of is if the computer will still function properly with a stick instead of an auto... Will it need to be reprogrammed? Or should this be a direct plug-and-play swap?

you will need to plug the T-5 harness in place of your car's Auto harness. you can drive it fine with the auto computer, but getting a SCT handheld with a custom 5-speed swap tune (i recommend VMP Tuning) will smooth out the car. im pretty sure you'll get CEL's and i wouldnt be surprised if the O/D Off light illuminated

Ok, it's been longer in getting this ready to go than I had anticipated, but the swap is going to be done this upcoming week.

My question now is, the car I'm getting the transmission from is an OBD1 car, and it's going in my OBD II car... Will I need to have the computer re-flashed, or will it run fine without reprogramming?

Also, if it needs re-flashed, can it be driven the way it is now (with the T-5 added) for a bit before I can get it re-flashed? Also are there any odd things I should be aware of that might come up after doing the swap?

Also of note, I'm having a qualified transmission tech do the actual swap (friend of mine), not doing it in my garage. He thinks the reverse lights might not work properly...
