T5 whine noise

i just had my t5 rebuilt with a master rebuilt kit from astroperformance.put tranny in and took it for a nice and easy drive. i noticed there was a loud whine when i took off. it got louder the more i gave it gas. sounds somewhat of an 03 cobra supercharged - from what i can describe the whine.it does it from 1st to 3rd gear only. all gears go in nice and easy without any problems. what could have gone wrong with the rebuilt or is it cause i need to drive it more. i only drove it for 10 mins and came back home. it has atf fluid in it. thanks for the help.

umm I would be careful, Check the tranny rebuild and fluid over or bring to a transmission shop to check it out, My t5 made the same supercharged whine and later it got louder and louder time went by it started sticking gears and finally my t5 blew up, It had to low of transmission fluid, so deff check ur fluid.

Possible but not probably. A whine described like he did is gears meshing. Check your fluid level.

You mean T5's aren't supposed to whine!? :dunno:
Same thing that happened to 95gtjeff happened to me. Twice now actually :wall:

Well my G Force T5 makes a weird noise too!!! in all gears but then again my gears are straight cut i believe i think they told that me the tranny would make a weird noise because of this. now i don't know if this is normal coming from a g force but the guys down at Promotion Powertrain said this was usual in their G Force kits.... :dunno:

If you got the straight cut gears, they're gonna be noisy.

what is the correct amount of fluid in the t5? and what brand of fluid do you guys recommend? thanks

Royal Purple or Mobil 1 synthetic ATF Roughly 2.5 quarts I believe. I put in 2 and 2/3rds to be sure in mine. There are drain and fill plugs on the side of the tranny. Fill it until comes out of the fill plug but that is messy so I just wing it and pour it in the shifter hole. More is better than less...and a tad more never hurt anything.

oh man i have the same problem. anyone figure out whats going on? i have a stock t5 that the original owner blew 2nd out of. got it fixed (whined before and still whines).

I just did the same thing actually. Pulled T5, had it rebuild by a friend, using a rebuild kit I've purchased off Astro. When I got transmission back, it whined like a son of a gun in 2nd upon deceleration. So, I took the transmission out again, took it to a reputable shop near by. They pulled it all apart, and told me that the snap ring for the 2nd was incorrect size, and the gear was sliding back and forth. 2nd was chewed up pretty badly. They replaced 2nd, a few sleeves for better gear change, and put correct snap ring in there. Noise went away.

BTW, whine like that is gears. Stop lying to yourself.

lol. i dont know what it is? i had a tranny place around town do it. trusted them for a number of years, all they do are manuals. but mine does it first, second and a little into third. but just if i go over like 2500 or 3000 it like clicks on?

Mine has that "supercharger" whine in 3rd around 2k rpm and in no other gear, probably going to get the gear set too when I get it rebuilt, already have all the new bearings ready and synchros

and mine whines when I downshift to 2nd. Biggest problem is the shifter rattling like a mf'er in 3rd and 4nd above 3000rpm though.. that's what scares me the most.

why are ya'll putting atf in manuals? jw. i always just put mtf. but mine has a whine in 3rd.

Because ATF isn't as stiff as gear oil, gear oil stinks, ATF is just generally better for the transmission...

they are fine meshing gears, they dont need such thick lube. i think thats what i was told?

every single t5 i have encountered has made this noise including the one in my 95 first second and third gear mostly on decel but in first and second it will if i slowly creep up in rpms
