So my 98 SVT Cobra is in real good running shape,
and I decided to slap on

SLP Catted X pipe, and the SLP loudmouth II catback exaust.

I was driving it the day after the instillation to church and there is that very worrying Check engine light. so any ideas?

is it overheating? got good oil pressure? my CEL came on in my GT for a while then went off for no apparent reason...may have been the gas cap...of course you can go to autozone and borrow the tool to read the code and see if what returns on it....
i was lucky and found my old diablo tuner that comes w/a scanner-ma-jig so if my comes back on i can use that...

IMO the check engine light is nothing more than a light to scare people into taking their car in to a shop and getting overcharged for a diagnostic and a few sensor changes.

If there was something REALLY wrong with your car you'd know it. Just pull the codes and figure out what it's trying to tell you. My guess is that the O2s are acting up since you swapping in an aftermarket catted pipe and you have absolutely nothing to worry about.

just go to walmart and buy their scanner there.. last time i was in there it was 100 bucks i think... works great on mine.. have one for ODB 1's and now a scanner for ODB II's they work great for figuring out whats wrong with the car vs taking it to the numbnuts and getting charged for the butload for something as simple as an o2 sensor going bad.. or something like that...

the one i have for my stang is the blue one on their shelf.. and i have no complaints about it...

Or you could just use the CEL to pull the codes and pay nothing. Just google how to do it. You need a jumper wire and a pad and paper.

do what i do, unplug the positive terminal, tap the brakes twice and it resets the system, then put the positive terminal back on

depends on what code its throwing, my cats are junk so sometimes when i reset it they are good, but then if i scrape the cats it sets it off again

autozone will check for free and tell you what it is.

I would bet its the o2s acting up with your exhaust
