I agree, if Ford is going to do an engine change then they should have gone bigger then a 5.0. 5.0 to 4.6 back to 5.0 (even though it started out/ w/ the push rod 5.0's) does not seem like progression to me. They should be sticking a 5.4L in for production Mustangs. Chevy was putting bigger engines in the camaros going back a long time now and are still doing so now. The reason why the LS1 1998-2002 camaros were so sick is b/c they were 350 CID engines VS the 302 Ford and the new Camaros are still push rod engines. Push Rods FTW!!

yea we should have got a 5.4 in the factory gt then new cobras get a turbo 6.0. like in the rapture or something! that be kick ass!

+1 they should make a 5.4 production mustang

do you think Ford has the technology to make a somewhat fuel efficient pushrod 5.4 like the 5.7 or 6.2 (or whatever) vettes and what-not?

when i see ford say its going in for sure ill jump, and wwhen i see one i will cry. i have though about this engine since i heard about it in the sema show a couple years ago and the focus rs8.....anyone ever heard of the 427 cammer from the 60's??????

it's still going to be slow. It can be the displacement as a 5.0 but it'll never have the true heart of a pushrod.

That and the LS1 is all aluminum too so theres less weight in the front end.

No where in that article does it say anything about the "Coyote" engine being a modular motor. I think you are misinformed. "Modular" is a term given to a family of motors that happen to have overhead cams. 4.6, 5.4, and 6.8 v10 motors are all modular motors. They many parts, hence the family analogy. So just because overhead cams, does NOT translate into modular anymore.

The coyote is a completely new motor. Completely redesigned from the ground up. New block, new heads, etc. And modular heads won't mate with the coyote motor and coyote heads won't mate with modular blocks.

eventhough i couldnt tell you the difference between the modular and coyote engines (partially because i havnt had time to read the article yet), he's right.

Contrary to popular belief, the Modular engine did not get its name from its design or sharing of certain parts among the engine family. Instead, the name was derived from a manufacturing plant protocol, "Modular", where the plant and its tooling could be changed out in a matter of hours to manufacture different versions of the engine family.

were just used to referring to the modular name as being an overhead cam motor, because im pretty sure that the modular design was the only OHC motor that Ford offered.

Knowing fords track record, they add power, and something else. They rarely throw an extra 100 horses into a car without doing something to slow it back down.
