It's a GM. That stands for Government Motors. I personally will most likely never own a GM or Chrysler product as long as the government owns them or has any sort of stake in them.

If you're thinking LT1, might as well go LS1. Waaay more power, the LT1's aren't all that great.

+1, the only way I could ever stand to own a camaro/trans am would be if it was an LS1. If you buy an LT1, you'll just wish you had an LS1.

If it's in a vette then your golden. :tongue3: 300hp from 91-96

The LT1 in mine is pushing strong. It even pushed 3rd and 4th to pieces in my tranny. :notworthy:

pros: 1 cam to swap out, and you can always throw roller rockers on them.

...only speaking from having a modular though.

They're well designed motors for the most part. Respond well to a cam. They were notorious for optispark because it is located directly under the water pump. The water pump would spring a leak, soaking the OS, and as we know -- water and electricity don't mix. Even if it fails on it's own, you have to remove the water pump to remove the OS. Kind of a pain. As far as value though, 275hp (underrated) for 3-4K is a great deal as far as I'm concerned. And they make about as many parts for it as the 5.0.

Had an LT1 a long time ago. Cars feel heavy (even compared to mustangs), and the fantastic optical distributor is both unreliable and expensive to replace. Interior is tiny for how huge and long the car is, trunk space is non existent. Window regulators are slow at best, and not working at worst. The cars do have good points however. And they sound like poop by comparison to the mustang

1. Base power. You get 275hp stock, which means around 240ish to the wheels through auto, a bit more through 6 speed manual. My 93 which was the slowest LT1, put down 238 through auto completely stock.

2. Suspension: Get torque arm panhard setup back, SLA front from factory. Not the best design for either, but better than Mustang stuff stock.

3. Huge aftermarket support: LT1s are pretty much a SBC in most of the construction if I remember correctly, so motor's been around forever. You've got a good solid platform to start with.

Things to keep an eye out on. 93 was a weird year. Motor was a speed density motor (no MAF), tuning could only be done through chips (unlike the later years, where you can program ECU directly), auto was an older 700R4 which was cable operated, rather than 4L60E in later years, which could be programmed through ecu, and T56 had more aggressive gears, while rear end was a 3.23 and not 3.42. The rear ends in all cars are 10 bolt GM, which are fairly weak. I have a few friends who broke theirs on drag radials with not a whole lot of power. If the gears are whining, then it will probably go out soon. T-tops are awesome to have, but tend to leak a lot of the times. Optispark (optical distributor) is a problem. If you are test driving one, make sure it's fully warm before you go. If there is a misfire, walk away, find one that runs good.

I know diddly about Camaros, so this probably won't help, but a local kid has an orange and black 98-02 body style with a raised hood. Best looking 4th generation Camaro I've ever seen. Very clean.

Only one I've ever been in was probably a 95 or 96 and all I could remember was how far the windshield stretched and how much hood was in front of that. I remember thinking at the time it would be a pain in the ass to parallel park, and forget about trying to clean the dash without tools. :p

wait, the 5.0 was too much to maintain so you traded for a 2v modular, now its getting too hard to maintain and too expensive to mod and you want an LT1??????

seriously, work with the 2v, or buy a honda, i vote keep the 2v and spray it or add some boost. most lt1's wont hold their own even against a stock PI new edge, so not worth it in my opinion.

Its the worst interior you will ever see in your life. every one I've ever been in has a headliner that sags onto the top of your head, several panels falling off, rattles from every corner, and they horrible to get in and out of. I cant stand a Camaro. Only GM i would ever even think about would be the WS6 Trans Am.
