I have a 94 gt. Would there be an increase of sound with the rear 2 converters gutted? Id like to keep the front 2 on so i dont get all the fumes and crap. Anyone try gutting cats before? This is my budget car. I'm saving up for a 2003 Cobra so im trying to avoid spending too much on this car.

do you get smogged?
Any of the aftermarket catted x/h pipes only come with 1 on each side. and they're 2.5".
cheap way would be to cut the back cat off and weld in a straight pipe in place.
or you should be able to find a off road x/h pipe used for about $50 in the classifides or C/L

I have a O/R H i would sell it needs to have a spot welded where the hanger came off. It left a small hole I would sell it for 50 bucks plus shipping.

It's drastically louder, atleast it was on my 4v. I just sawzall-ed em out and put straight pipes in.

If you want your car to be louder just be a high flow or offroad midpipe, don't hack the crap up.

Just take the factory cats off and put a pair of Magnaflow high-flow cats (available pretty much everywhere for fairly cheap) on there. I'm doing that to my V6 car, but not for extra noise or performance... more because I want more fuel economy.

Heh... a Mustang for my fuel-economy car... Who'd ah thunk it?

I've gutted the rear cats myself, it wasnt a huge difference with my 2chamber flomasters dumped, but I think its because the sound just hits the ground and bounces back up to give you a headache of drone. But when I put my 23 inch cherrybomb glasspacks on it, it was way louder than it was when I put them on the first time, with all my cats.

The Actual difference in a O/R pipe to a catted Pipe is very slim if your car runs properly.

Yeah Win is right, the difference in performance between high flow catted midpipes and off-road midpipes is negligible at best, it's not like if you go with an off-road midpipe over a catted one you're going to feel a huge difference.

treu daht. Mine was restricted from the chunks being stuck in there, so it freed up some power I'd say, and some sound.

we dont have inspections in kansas, so i just bought a full on, 6 cats removed, off road h pipe.. illegal, but the performance gain was massive, the sound greatly improved and much louder.

If you had a Performance Gain every one of your cats must have been Fubared. I stand by my previous statement.

I have a cat. His name is Fatness. He weighs 17 pounds and could kick your cats ass.
