This a good idea?

I need a new motor for my 67. It drinks about as much oil as it does gas and I know nothing about the motor. It was swapped in at some point as the car is orginaly a 6cylinder and thats all I know. I was told it has a mild cam when I bought the car and it has a Edelbrock Intake/Carb. I found a Fox-body long-block for $400 that has been rebuilt. My friend's dad bought it and planned on just keeping it for whatever, so he's not really selling it, but he told me he'd let me have it for $400. The only problem is that he doesn't know who rebuilt the motor so he's a bit worried to sell it to me just because we know each other. However, he has another longblock that was just pulled from his daughter's 86 stang, that could probably use a rebuild eventually, but still runs good, its just a bit tired. He wants $250 for it. I think I'd be better off risking it with the $400 motor though. We know it was rebuilt and its only an extra $150. Plus, I'd rather not tear into the motor because I've never really done it and I don't have the place to do it. I figure I could just swap the intake/carb onto the Longblock, throw the front assecories on and be done. Would the motor work for my application? I'm not too worried about power right now, I just want a good reliable motor to go cruise around in. Sooo what do you guys think?

I'd go with the $400 buck motor too. You might pop the heads off just to ck the cylinders for scoring and a ridge at the top. I think everything should swap over but you never know.

i would go with the 400 dollar engine if you're not too keen on rebuilding one yourself. If you were rebuilding one you could most likely use the block that you have already for that and save the 250 on the block and put it towards parts for a rebuild. but if you're just wanting a reliable engine, for the money I'd go with the rebuilt one.

The 67 is a 4-speed. The guy is still kinda in the air on whether or not he actually wants to sell it so I might not be able to pick it up, but I hope I can stilll have that option.

Well, how are you going to put your clutch linkage into the side of the block when there is no provision for it on the newer engine blocks? Unless you run an aftermarket one?
