Hey everybody, new forum member but not to the information. The forum made my PI swap easy a breeze.
But as a new member i have a question for those with greater knowledge than myself, im by no means ASE certified
however i know my way around an engine bay and a racetrack. lol. (rebuilt an HO 302 for my old 86 F-150 4x4, Keith Black pistons, fully balanced rotating assembly, Longtube Flowtechs, K&N, You kno the basicstuff)
Now to my question! :khobra:. Before my PI swap i took the GT out to the strip to see what it could do.

Here is how it went,

I raced against my best friend and his 96 GT. This was my first and only run of the night so pay no attention to the R/T.
Plus it was on a pro tree, lol. NOT used to that. Im the right lane.

LEFT. RIGHT.

R/T: .849 .325
60' 2.153 2.623 (spun like hell) :slap:
330' 6.163 6.697
1/8 9.533 10.020
MPH 72.95 73.05
1000' 12.427 12.904
1/4 14.882 15.335
MPH 90.55 92.64

Right 1st by .0718

My question is what should my ET be when i dont screw up my launch? I pulled on him even though i spun real hard :lame:, lol.
What should my ET be with that MPH?
Finally, how much can i expect to improve with the PI intake?
Thanks dudes for the info on the swap yall, sn95forums FTW!!! :thumb:

Also forgot to add that the intake coolant crossover finally went boom, :nonono:.
I was supprised by how much i beat him by too, it was almost a car length at the finish! 98>96. lol.
But it was overall a good night, nothing beats racing with buddies out at the track :drunk:. lol.
Plus it gave me a reason to do the swap.

Well if you go by the rule of thumb, .1 in the 60' is worth .2 by the end of the 1/4 mile and assuming you cut a 2.0 60' next time out that would put you at about 14.1 time. I have not seen a (near) stock 96-98 with that kind of time however, more like mid 14s is where I've seen a stock 98 at with a decent driver at the helm.

Tough to say what you would run depending on the mph because the mph would typically go down if you hook better. I've seen the PI intake dyno postings worth 7-15rwhp (mine was 7), so another 10th could be had with that mod.

yeah i couldnt believe the timeslip either becuase of the way i pulled on my friend. I know the 98's come with redesigned
exhaust and a better computer tune stock, but i couldnt believe that i pulled on him that hard after that bad of a 60'.
As far as i know this GT is all stock except for what i have listed, and i just installed the PI intake. It wasnt on during the
run(matter of fact the run is the reason i had to get one, lmao). I was figuring ill be somewhere in the mid 14 range and
with the PI intake maybe low 14's? It just seems to good to be true tho.

well going with the mph say you trap 93....I would expect a high 14 at best trapping 93. Go run your car and you will find out what you run.

Probably 14.80 ish with that MPH, at best. So you have lot's of room for improvement in your technique.

And don't feel bad dude, the first time I went to the track, I did it with 400 rwhp and ran a 14.08, lol.

I ran a [email protected] with my stock 97gt...that was the best run of the day for me..the others ones were like 15.2, 15.1, 14.8, 15.1. Something like that..it was my first time. I ran once again after I installed the PI Intake at a different track. I ran consisten 14.7's@96ish. So my mph went about 1.5 and the ET was due to me having different tires on (A lot worse) and cutting a best 60ft of 2.3. I havent run yet with decent tires but if I can get that down to even a 2.1 60ft that should yield me around a 14.3? That would be sweet haha.

well this wasnt my first time on a track before, just the first time in this GT. lol.
i used to race shifter karts but now im liking the strip more than the road courses.
his car supprised me alot however, i didnt think he was capable of gettin into the 14's. lol.
the 96 is mostly stock also. hoping after i start the academy here and get my pay raise from
the PD, ill be able to put some of those upcoming mods on, haha. if i can get it to the 13's
on street tires ill be happy till i do the PI head/cam swap. lol.

oh yea, it also didnt help the fact that i blew the crossover tube(plastic peice of S***)
on that pass. so i only had that run for the night. im prolly gonna head out to the strip
this friday night so we'll see what its got. lol.

You can hit 13's with a PI intake and cams in your NPI heads for sure. Keep practicing! BTW shifter karts are awesome, but I'm too big for them. :-[

lol best thing to do hmmm. get the heads and cams installed, solid lower control arms, frpp uppers, and M/T ET Streets. That should help you out considerably :)

All I had was a PI Intake,exhaust,4:10s. And I ran a best of 8.95 in the 1/8th a year ago. You should be able to
get that with your Pi intake. IMO

keep on going to the track with that car... :thumb: :thumb:
