I currently have 245/45/17's up front on my 95 GT. I just purchased 17/10.5 inch rims for the rear so i know i can fit a 295 tire on there with no modifications but my question is there a big difference between a 40 and a 45 tall tire? Will it be a noticable difference from a side view with the front tires remaining a 45? I will post pics when i get them put on, just waiting to select a tire!

When your buying the tires, just look at the overall diameter spec and as long as they are the same or close to the height i would not worry about it

Or if you want a bit of a staggered look get slightly taller ones in the back

oh and just to point out another thing just because two tires have the same profile does not mean they are the same height.

For example my 295/35's are .5 inch taller than my 265/35's

yeah trickflow is right, the tire's height depends on two things, the width and the profile size.

example: 245/45-17, 275/40-17 and 315/35-17 are all the same height tire.

Imo I'd probably go for 315/35-17s for the rear, they look sickness and will match the height of the stock front tire. If you don't want to go quite that large a 295/40-17 could be a good bet but it will be slightly taller than the front...

Edit: probably because 295/40 is a rare ass size, most people with your car and 10.5" rears go with 315s. If you don't want 315s maybe look for a 285/40.

yea 295/40/17 doesnt even exist...i think 285/40/17 would be good and only a few companies make this size.

The first number is designating how many mm wide the tire is at the tread, the second # designates how tall the sidewall is in a percentage form, so a 245/45/17 is 245mm wide 45% as tall which 110mm then divide it by 2 and you have 55mm of tire from the rim to the top of the tread. So if you go 295/45 you are going to have 66mm in height around the rim. I know it sounds a little retarded, looks retarded to me, but that is how tire rack made the explanation.

Thanks man.... Although it's nothing more than some wide rims/tires... and a small drop.
