title question

not sure where to post this i hope it fine here i have a 1990 lx notch that i bought for a project stang and my question is,

when i bought the car the guy was like here is the title its not in my name and its from georgia but you can just forge the signature and put it in your name. i dont want to do this bc it against the law. how would i go about fixing it to have it in my name??


btw the car was not stolen i had the vin ran through police database and came up clean

Only way I know of is to locate the person who has the car in their name, and have them sign it over to you.

you can usually go to the DMV and they'll assign an investigator to the issue to have it fixed. Friend of mine had the same problem with a 96 GT he bought guy kept dicking him around about the title.

You can try to find the guys phone number and call him and tell him the situation. You can mail him the title and have him sign it then he can send it back. And plus your from NY, send him as well the NYS Bill of Sale forum. Otherwise, they are gonna tax you on fair market value on the car.
