I post this same question on another forum and am getting different answers. I hope you guys can help me out.

I get my engine turned to TDC on compression stroke, balancer is at 0, drop in distributor and rotor is pointed at #1 spark plug. But, when I put the cap on and go to turn the dist. so #1 on the cap is above the rotor, I can only turn it so far until one of those little nubs on the distributor hits my fuel rail (line across) and can't turn any further. So #1 on the cap is not directly over the rotor. Any ideas?

You need to rotate the entire body of the dizzy so that it clears. This will probably mess up the routing of your plug wires. Just take them all off, rotate the body where you need it to be and restab it. Here is a pic of my engine. The #1 plug wire is point rough towards the alternator. I went through the same issue you did. Stab the dizzy where you need it so that it clears and can be rotated slightly, then route the plug wires.
