Anyone know of a way to get the latch to latch down all the way...when it doesn't?

For instance, when you push the handle in to lock it, the J-hook starts to latch, and then releases itself. I can get the j-hook to clamp into the bar, but a few shakes and someone can easily get something in there to unlock the doors and steal meh shit.

Plus its a pain in the ass while driving, especially in the rain. Because when your driving, all you hear is:

annoying as hell. I've seen latches by themselves on LMR (I think) and they're $100, but how the heck do you get it to go in the vert?
