If its a 5 speed it is not a viper spec tranny. You should be able to google those cast numbers and come up with something.

Why do you guys think it's not a T5? It looks like one to me. I could be wrong of course.

Here's a picture of my Tremec 3550 (left) next to a standard T5. (right)

*edit* How many bolts does your shifter have?

Yep, here's a pic of a 94-95 T5. The case castings changed a bit over the years, but the overall "look" and dimension was similar, and look nothing like the Tremec 3500, TKO, TKO 500/600 cases.

Looks like what you've got there is your average run-of-the-mill T5.

An easy way to tell??? pop your shifter bezel in the interior off, and count the bolts that hold the actual shifter to the transmission.
If it has 6 bolts , it's a TKO, if it has 4, it could be either a T-5, 3550, or a T-56 6 speed with a gear missing?

No, 3550s have six bolts, not four. See the picture of mine above.

this is what mine looks like. notice the two boxes on top are equal. mine is almost identical

Your main case and tailshaft housing look nothing like the TKO. Notice the "square" pattern of the flanges between the maincase and the tailshaft housing on the TKO? Yours has a taper. You have a T5.

My mistake.. But it looks like the shifter design differs between them. My TKO has the 6 bolts, but the shifter base is a rectangle,
whereas the 3550 you posted looks tapered toward the front of the shifter. So you were correct, the 3550 has 6 bolts,
but at least there is a way to tell them apart, other than casting numbers and so on.
