Hello,

I've never posted to this site, so go easy on me;) I have a 2001 GT with a 2002 GT drive-train. Most of the time when I'm in gear(5-speed) and decelerating it feels like it switches to a higher gear by itself until I apply gas and it seems like nothing ever happened? The Tremec 3650 doesn't slip or grind and the clutch grabs perfect. As far as I can tell the tranny is in very good shape and shifts like it should. Is this just a symptom of traction control turned on? I don't ever turn it off unless, you know... I've owned the car for about a year, previous cars I've owned, 87 GT, 88 GT, and 92 GT. They didn't have traction control so I wouldn't know.

I am confused.....You are saying that when you are in a higher gear it feels like it upshifts its self when you are on decell? Honestly, that dosn't sound right to me.

Yeah, I'm pretty confused too, it almost feels like it goes into neutral or a higher gear when I am decelerating. You know the feeling when you are on the decel, and the engine whines down as your coming to a stop. Maybe the clutch is slipping on decel? I'm really stumped. It doesn't affect driving, I just thought it was strange.

Interesting. I have an '04, same transmission, 96K, original clutch, and I haven't noticed this.

Could you take a video of what's happening? Sometimes it's easier to see and listen.

Sorry for the late reply, I will try to make a video of it, it hasn't really done it lately, checked tranny fluid, it's like new and up to level, no shavings or anything. I haven't replaced my clutch since I bought the car, so I have no idea what shape it's in. I'll break into the tranny probably sometime in the late summer when I get access to a lift.

You might want to look at your clutch cable. Could be frayed somewhere and causing problems. You running the stock Quadrant with no Firewall Adjuster? Being an older car its probably due for the Cable and while you're at it you might as well buy the kit that has the Cable, Adjustable Quadrant, and Firewall Adjuster all in one.

You might be right, I just haven't really looked into with detail. My house air conditioner is out, so it's way to hot to go check out the cable. Should I go with a Ford Racing throw-out bearing and pilot bearing also? What clutch do you recommend? I want something that can grow with the mild bolt-ons I will be doing in the near future.

With the cable just look for any frays on it and then check it down at the fork. Normally they start fraying down by the fork. Id run out there while its dark and semi cool, just grab a flashlight and itll take you all of maybe 10 minutes.

I always recommend Centerforce Dual Friction. From mild to wild they do great. I've ran them in all of my Mustangs and havent had one complaint outta them. YES DEFINITELY go with the FRPP Throwout and Pilot Bearing.
