So I am having trouble shifting to 5th only when coming from the top of 4th gear. At normal speeds its alright, just hard to describe, kinda like its barely holding onto the gear, but I've never had it pop out. What could cause this? Tranny going? Input shaft?

Mine did the same thing except with 2nd when I got it. Now its gotten to where I can't even go into second unless I downshift and time it juuusssttt right. I'm puttting it in the shop soon, I'll let you know what he says it is for sure.

It's only when I'm at the top of 4th going like 120 or 130. It eventually goes in after slowing down

alright, how much would that cost to fix? what else should I get done to my tranny while I am getting it fixed? What kind of of upgrade kits are out there? My tranny has about 165,000 miles on it so I think it's time to get it looked at.

In that case - does it really matter? You can't be reaching those speeds very often. It doesn't sound like something you should worry about spending money to fix.

ya but at normal speeds it still feels like it just wants to pop out of gear. It hasn't happened in 5th yet but in 1st it's done it several times

Check your shifter stops then. Once the slider ring has full engaged the gear and blocker ring, it's pretty hard for it to pop out of gear. It is more than likely a shifter problem, not an internal transmission problem.

well even if your tranny has 165k miles and you plan on modding the car i would go ahead and buy a upgraded gear set...

i have g-force gears in my car and i love em!!! even though its hard to shift when the tranny is cold lol..
but it handles the power my car puts down and wants more and more!

Sounds like the slider is going bad. The teeth get chewed up after time and gives a vague feeling engaging the gear. I had this happen with second. It started by feeling vague, then popping out of gear every once in awhile, then would only stay in gear when I was pounding on it, then nothing at all. Better off rebuilding or buying a new trans. I ended up doing mine in stages and caused a huge inconvience (daily driver). Get the G-Force gears if you plan on staying with the T-5, if you can afford them. Good luck

Well, I'll check all my shift stops, I was thinking about that as well. If it keeps doing it once I verified that they are fine then I will start planning a rebuild, or if you have a t56 viper spec tranny laying around, I would consider that...hehe
Thanks Everybody

Justin
