so. here is a puzzle for all you tech guys. and im literally ready to send someone some money to whoever can figure this out. ill get a paypal account started now cuz i really dont want to take it to a ford dealership and get raped by charges.

heres the problem. ill make it short but with plenty of detail. all of a sudden a squeking noise started when i would take off from first but would eventually die out when i gained speed. thought it could be brakes/suspension/etc. but i narrowed it down to 110% transmission. because when i take off(feathering the clutch to get going), the squeking startes, yet keeps IDENTICAL pace with my wheel speed/rpms. BUT, heres the catch, while take off and it begins to squeek(while stil moving) i put the clutch back in, it all stops! huh? is right. so my ball bearing retainer gave out on me a week ago so i was praying that it was it, having my luck it wasnt. ahhh!!

on a side not, this noise has mood swings!! which sucks even worse. cuz it seems to vary on tempature and moisture it seems like. the warmer and drier it is, over half the time it never happens. but when cool and wet it is horrible! but even then, it somehow manages to stop after a while. so im guessing my tranny gets to the right temp for it not to squeek. who knows. ive been thinking about it for months and i cant take it anymore.

ill send someone some money, if you can figure out what this is/could be. im litterally not joking. im just fed up with it.

yall have came through on MANY occasions for me, and many other people. but this is one of my most serious problems and want to get rid of it.

ANY thoughts or input will be greatly appreciated.

thank you everyone

**just throwing some stuff out there. got a brand new clutch along with the ball bearing retainer. what about the flywheel, friction plate, driveshaft(highly doubt thats whats causing it), synchronizers or what. i dont kno a whole bunch about trannies just thought i would open some people minds.
*the noise almost sounds like its metal on metal but i dont think it is, dont kno if i need to lube something in the tranny or what.
PLEASE HELP :notworthy: :icon_salut:

Throwout bearing is toast.

It's called a main bearing retainer, not a ball bearing retainer.

The throwout bearing is the one that fits over the input shaft and is actuated by the clutch fork. It should come with the new clutch, if it was purchased as a kit. You can just buy a clutch. When ever you replace the clutch, you should always replace the throwout bearing and pilot bearing, no matter how good it looks.

well i definitely dont want to say any of you are wrong, cuz i kno for sure, yall are a hell of a lot smarter than me. but my brother said he replaced that when he put the new clutch in. and unfortunately it still makes the noise. so what about the actual gears itself, think it could be those? i highly doubt it, just throwing some stuff out there cuz i really have no clue. thanks for all the input so far, yall are great

If he did, then the new one is bad.

No.

See the shiny collar on the front of this transmission that's held on by four bolts? That's the main bearing retainer. It's called a main bearing retainer (not ball bearing) because it retains the primary tapered bearing at the front of the main gear cluster.

This is a throwout bearing. It slides fore and aft on the main bearing retainer, is actuated by the clutch fork, and is what releases pressure on the pressure plate when you push the clutch.

This is a pilot bearing. It sits inside the back of a crankshaft on a manual transmission car, and the input shaft sits inside of it.

When you replace a clutch, you should:
[x]Replace the throwout bearing
[x]Resurface the flywheel
[x]Replace the pilot bearing (because you're down there anyway)
[x]Inspect the main bearing retainer for galling or damage, and replace as necessary. (this is especially true of older T5s that came with aluminum collars)
[x]Inspect and replace the rear main seal as necessary
[x]Inspect and replace the clutch fork. At a minimum, grease the pivot ball in the bellhousing.
