I know it's safe to go without it but will removing it, and having nothing keeping engine heat from getting to the hood, mess with my paint? If you've done this please chime in!

Just yanked the insulator off. much better! Now I have to detail the underside of my hood... I'm giving the motor a bath tomorrow so it'll be done.

I saved all the plastic push pins holding the insulator on, with a Ford you never know when you'll need a spare... or 9... lol

OK. Now that you have removed this piece, I'll let you know one other thing that insulator and pin set you kept do. In the

event of an underhood fire (let's hope not), in the intense heat the attachment pins melt and release the insulator down onto

the engine effectively "snuffing" out the fire. So keep the pin set. You might want to re-install the insulator later.

Some of you can tell I've probably been working with Tier 1 OEM suppliers too long huh?

Sorry guy! 2 days late and a $1 short. Ya learn somthin' new everyday like me.

I just responded to a few "misnomers" in another thread involving Handz and an oil filter. He somehow thought

that the "S" in the filter# FL-820S stood for "short". Where does some of this stuff come from? GT

Guess you could leave it off. Many cars over the years (such as the '08 Escape w/ I4 engine) don't have it. Some components have
a definate purpose. Some even want to remove the vibration dampener from the bottom of the rear axle to save weight. Ummm.... No.

Is it painted under the pad?

Hell I might do it also, my is worn too.
I dont think it save the day if the engine caught on fire. Didnt on my old 93 Dakota, engine fire burnt the whole engine dept. and interior.

its total over spray underneath it but a rattle can would sove it if your that worried about it. Ive heard that it protects your hood from warping but my hood is F'ed anyways and it looked like piss so i took it off.

in all seriousness, I removed the vibration dampener to save a little weight and didnt notice any differance in vibrations...I really dont think that piece is very effective

A friend of mine removed the dampner from his '70 Galaxy 500 years ago. We couldn't really tell the difference
either. My auto mechanics instructor said you might notice a difference on a stretch of "uneven" pavement but,
otherwise no.
