Hey guys, I have had this noise coming from my car for a while now, but I finally had time to post up a video of it. Its kind of a metallicy screeching noise that is coming from under the car. You can hear it inside the car and barely in the engine bay (which makes me believe it is not a belt type issue). It only happens when the engine is cold (lol especially now its inthe 20's outside), once the engine warms up it goes away. It does get higher in pitch with rpm's and you can tell that a little bit from the second video when I rev it up barely. Do you think it could be uneven cylinder wear? Here are 2 videos... Its really disturbing me and any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance

Is this an automatic? Reason I ask is that I've heard something like this before w/ an automatic car. If it is, check the inspection plate in front of the torque converter. Make sure it is not installed inverted/backwards. The one I found was put in place backwards and the bolts on the front of the torque coverter were scraping the the surface of the plate that was supposed to be facing toward the engine.

These types of noises are really irritating I know. Good Luck.

No it is a manual. I'm not gonna lie to you, I have no idea when the throwout bearing was replaced last. The sound goes away when the engine gets warm, do you think a bearing would be affected like that by the temps? Thanks for the replies so far

possible yes. and does the noise go away when you push the clutch pedal in? if it does then its most defiantly a throw out bearing.

Sounds like the throw out bearing... Does it somewhat go away when you push the clutch in....?

Usually the TOB doesn't make much noise until the clutch pedal is depressed. It then makes contact with the pressure plate's diaphragm spring and starts spinning.
The TOB (or the clutch fork) might make a rattling sound if one of the clutch fork's TOB retainer springs is broken but, that's about it.

Could be the transmission input shaft's bearing or maybe a worn pilot bushing. That would somewhat explain the sound disappearing upon warm up.

This kind of problem is unfortunately of an exploratory nature.

Explorations under the car for mysterious noises are never fun lol. I started it up this morning and pushed the clutch in to see what would happen. Every time I depressed the clutch pedal the sound kind of responded to it, but it never actually stopped making noise altogether. I wanted to take another video but my daggon batteries died again.

if the noise responds (as in goes away or gets louder) when you depress the clutch pedal then its within the clutch generally if you press the clutch in and it stops making noise its a throw out bearing

if it continues it could very well be the pilot bearing or somethings warped and causing the noise.

Forgive me if any of these questions are stupid, but I am just wondering... If I were to buy a clutch kit for the car (i.e. clutch, pressure plate, throw out bearing) do you think the problem would be solved? If it is the problem you guys are referring to with the pilot or throwout bearing is it something that I can overlook for a while or pretty soon I'm going to be stuck on the side of the road calling a tow truck. I was about to add a 75 or 100 shot of nitrous to the car pretty soon so I was pondering purchasing a new clutch anyway. thanks

if your replacing the pilot bearing just replace the clutch while you have all of it off.
