I have a '98 3.8L and want to go to true duals. What will I need to accomplish this? I'd like to go with an X-Pipe setup from cats back but am unsure of the '98 configuration to do so.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

an x pipe wouldnt be true duals, it would be duals but not true dual. true duals have no crossover pipe connecting the two pipes.

an x-pipe will make your car very raspy, check some vids on youtube. the best sounding is definitely an h-pipe with flows.

True Duals will give the raw engine note which I love. It's all up to you. All you're going to need are the mufflers, tips, and cross-over pipe (if you decide), and just have an exhaust shop fabricate the rest.

I say go with an x-pipe with high flow cats, because it flows better with the x cross. H-pipes don't flow as evenly, resulting in the lower rumbly noise you hear. It's up to you, but I had a 1998 v6-mustang with jba short tube headers, highflow cat X-pipe, with dual flowmasters, and it sounded really good. Also after 3500 rpm on any V6 it is going to sound raspy wether you have an H-pipe or an X-pipe. X-pipe just flows better.

Also I'm not hating on the H-pipe, my 5.0 sounds great with one.

How would it sound and would I lose any power if the muffler shop just cut my pipes behind my Cats welded in pipes and mufflers all the way out the back?

i went to a junk yard and picked up pipes off of a cobra (like 96 or so) for $20 and had them put on my car with a custom H for another $300 or so.

its all removable though which is nice in case it has to come off.

i think mine sounds pretty good, the videos i have for it suck but ill post them anyways.
girlfriends camera is broken and mine doesnt record sound ha.
so terrible sound quality, but hopefully you get the idea.
