A catback system would be a great first mod but not necessarily small or cheap. A good exhaust shop can give you options, even just a single muffler for now. Thrush, Flowmaster, Corsa, MAC ect. all sound different from each other but are all good. YouTube has examples to listen to.
Next could be: Cold Air Intake OR Underdrive Pulleys
More expensive but fantastic will be when you get a SCT tuner.
American Muscle is a great place to look things over. Hope that's some help. This forum has awesome Mustang brainiacs who will always help you out.
Have a great time modding your Mustang!

I would go exhuast gears intake tuner first and then if you still want to put money into a v6 i would do a split port swap

If you want to keep the 6 then I'd do what they say, split port swap first, and then exhaust and the rest.

If you think about it long enough your better off with a v8. Due to the fact any "mod" you do to it will yield way better results (and sound). As well, push-rod 8's and 6's are pretty close on highway mpg and maybe 5-6mpg different in town.

Just something to think about.

split port swap first. i agree i regret not doing it to mine. i got exhaust and slightly bigger gears and wish i would have done split port swap. now the car will be given to my daughter so i don't want to put the time and money into it anymore. if your not planning on going and spending a lot of money then just stick with appearance mods. it takes a lot of dough to get our singleports fast.

Ok so i got a new single muffler today went with the thrush turbo.
It sounds a little better but not a whole lot different.
Will putting a decent tip change the sound or just the appearence?
Also this is just temporary since i looked into getting a cat back system and can get it done at a muffler shop for 350 and thats parts and labor.
So how would i go about doin a split port swap?
How much are we looking at and what parts do i need?
Also should i take it to a shop and have it done or can i do it myself?
Thanks for all the help guys and i apreciate it.
