Alright im going to look at a 2000 model sn95 mustang and because of reasons told in my introductory post it has to be a v6 and automatic. Im really into working on cars and ive worked on them for years plus since my lifes boring i study random stuff about them. Well what i want to know is if i get it im going to look into a v6 to v8 swap and a standard transmission swap. I looked this up but i found people either wanting to go from the v6 to the 2v 4.6 or from the v6 to a carbed motor...i want something other than that...i know its going to be alot of money and itd be easier to sell it down the road and blah blah blah but i dont see the point since im not going to be using the 2v 4.6 anyway. I was looking into maybe the 5.4 swap or (dreaming here) the coyote swap. Of course this will all be done over a good length of time collecting parts (future boost possible...my ultimate end goal is a streetable 500 horsepower) and then when i have everything i think i need i will dive into the swap. So my question is (for the best bang for the buck) should i go coyote 5.0L, 3v 4.6L, 5.4L or...??? thanks for looking

If you are going to put a V8 it in, start with a V8 car. If you want a manual in it, start with a manual car. It will save you a LOT of time and money (and headache).

Best bang for the buck is going to be build the motor the car comes with. People get big eyes thinking of all these magical swaps - and at the end of it all, they realise if they had a simple build of the original motor, it would have been a faster car for less money.

For a streetable 500 hp 2000, I'd do a boosted 4 cam 4.6L. Let me also ask you this: What is the highest hp car you've driven? Alot of people chase a number that is WAY more car than they are ready for.

You should take LilRoush's advice, considering he had a 500 horse V6 at one point, and has helped me considerably in my decisions.

As he said, what is your real final goal. Have you ever been behind the wheel of over 300 horse? A lot of people hear 500, but don't really realize how much that is, and how tough it might be to have a streetable version. It costs gobs of money to build it all right.

A v8 platform is an easier start. Right now I am doing an auto to manual swap, and it's only going to go smoothly because I have 2 complete cars to work with, so any parts I need, I just run to one car or the other and get them.

Starting with with a v8 is hard enough and costly enough. Unless ur gonna gut the car and make it a racer its cheaper in the long run to get a v8 ..... but if ur good with working on it and have a big budget .... do it

I remember the first time I drove a 500 whp fox.

It it waaaynastier than a 600whp gt500.

But yea, if you can't afford a v8 mustang to start with. Do not attempt anything you are thinking. Pulling out a 2v and installing, idk a navigator engine is hard enough. Swapping a 3.8/4.2 to a 5.4 will be almost impossible for a new guy.

Just start small with modifications, that's my only suggestion. An don't buy a v6 mustang, they are garbage :p

Dint waste your time buying a v6 if you want a v8..

This was my first mustang..

2004 3.9l V6 auto with under 70k miles.. I tricked myself into buying it by telling myself I would be better for me since it would be cheaper on insurance and gas.. I always wanted a mustang since I was a kid so I was sure id be happy with it.. and I was... for about 2 months then I started hating it.. id pull up next to GTs and hate hearing their rumbling exhaust.. I really did end up hating that car the only thing it had going for it was the way it looked...

Tell your parents a v6 will drive 100mph just as easy as a GT it just takes a little longer to get there.. if they trust you to be responsible enough to drive a v6 mustang then they should trust you to be responsible in a GT..

Just because a mustang doesnt have a v8 and 5 speed doesnt mean its any safer.. you can kill yourself in anything

im on the fence on this one put it in perspective . im well over 7500 deep into my swap + suspension wheels , tires/ odds and ends i bought.
should i have just put the m90 complete swap i had laying around and called it a day... im guessing my car is respectably around 350 rwhp before spray with built 4.6 11.2:1 compression stage II heads and poopy cams.
that said id never go back to v6...

if it were me... find yourself a 4v cobra... NOTHING sounds as sick as a cammed quad cam that pumps out some power.

Just have fun!

Get the v6 car and start swapping out parts for a modular platform. When you decide what engine to use, it will fit.

If you start off with a cheap enough v6, build a rear and get a nice suspension and fuel system under it. then you can realistically drop in any motor. I like to joke and say I have a drivetrain that will handle a 9 second launch, and a motor that will keep me in the 13s. Nice and safe :)

I contemplated getting a V6 before I got my 5.0. My dad said if your getting a Mustang, get the eight. You know what, he was right. I have no negative things to say about V6's but don't take any offense to this comment-- There is nothing like the sound of a V8. Theres a lot of members on here with sick V6's that I'd drool over in person. I love Mutangs whether its a 6 or 8, no difference to me. That being said, if you plan on swapping a V8 in, might aswell just get one with a V8 in it to start. Less of a headache and you'll save yourself a ton of work.

If you haven't driven a car with more than or around 300 hp, don't do anything other than a cai and exhaust until you can control the car. Would be a recipe for disaster to soup the car up if your not ready for the power. I've driven a car with 300hp before, but I doubt I'd be ready for 400-500hp.

I drove an 08 corvette when I was 17. Nearly crapped myself, but it was phenomenal. I realized, I had no idea what fast was at that point in my life.

Nice lol. Those are no joke. My mechanics got a Vette, his boss bought one, slapped a blower on... Needless to say it lit up the tires at 50-60mph and had to take the blower off he couldn't drive it lmao

Take it from me - I have a sixxer. You don't NEED the V8. If you wanted real power, you wouldn't be looking at this model mustang. I'm more than content with my car. I wish it sounded better sometimes, sure, but that can all be taken care of later. If you're gonna be throwing that kinda money at your car, wait until you have a stable job and you're out of school and have some downtime.

100% True...

I went from driving a 240hp car to 500hp -800hp cars at a shop....big difference...you think you can drive until you hit the gas and get scared.

If you want a fast car... save up...learn, and either buy a create motor if you don't want to build it yourself, buy a motor and haul it to a shop to be built, or build it yourself from the block up. Anyone can read. And anyone can mess up an engine build so ask as many questions as possible if you build it. Find a solid tech article for dropping in or building your motor.

I'd probably get a V8 car, and buy a second motor (the same motor) and build it.

Ummm does driving my Brothers 1972 z28 split bumper camaro that has somwhere around 650 horses from a stroked big block and a 5 speed count? Its Na not turboed though. Im used to Big horsepower cars and ive driven my sisters 1980 c10 with a 496 and a TH400 ( i dont know about the horsepower on that truck) My family (besides my parents) love cars and are horsepower junkies. Ive never driven a high horsepower fuel injected car but it cant be much different than carbureted. I forgot about the ls series engines (hard to believe) a 6.0L iron block ls based motor is perfect for boost.
Btw if someone wants pics i can show them. The z28's having new fuel lines and and a new 6AL box put in it atm tho
