I'm looking for a set of tall valve covers for my 306 rebuild. I'm going to go with a gt40 head with pedestal mount 1.6 roller rockers. I'm wondering what valve covers you guys were running in a similar setup or whatever... could you post a pic of it and what you had to do to get them to fit correctly under the intake and behind the alternator bracket. I'm thinking a 1" intake spacer and I think I heard you grind the bracket down but I'm unsure on this and would like to know before I order covers.... these are the covers I'm thinking of...

I just bought a set of Cobra valve covers from a 94-95 Cobra.

I used GT40's and Cobra 1.7's. My old 92 LX I used stock valve covers with Cobra 1.7's - I just removed the baffle in the cover and there was no problem.

I like the Summit ones you posted a pic of... i'm re-using my stock valve covers off my 351, i'm just having them sand blasted and powdercoated graphite gray...

i have the ford motorsport aluminum valve covers, and i had so many clearance issures. I have a 1.5" phenolic spacer and a 1" tb spacer to clear the covers, and its still very close by the TB and upper intake

for my alternator, you can adjust the dowel pins in the bracket and add washers where needed. worked out great for me. i also ground the alternator on the bearing casing on the back for a little extra clearance so i dont have to remove the alt to remove the valve covers

I have the same setup as what you're looking for. With GT40 heads, and 1.7 rockers I put on the top Ford Racing valve covers you posted. I used a 1" Trick Flow spacer and ground the centre part on the back of the alternator down. I'm not sure which intake you plan on using but mine has the older Cobra intake and there is a decent amount of clearance under the TB. Only issue I ran into was finding the right breather to clear the EGR valve. I ended up going with a K&N one... 62-1040 I think was the number.
I tried to attach a pic of mine... never posted a pic before so hopefully it works!

The Moroso ones need no grinding of anything, they are custom made to clear the alternator and roller rockers, i use it with a 1" spacer and 95 Cobra intake.

Thanks guys.. I like the moroso ones and love the fact that they fit perfect... however the price is quite steep so I think I'm going to go with the ford racing covers. they look good and don't take but a little griding so that will work for me I believe.

I would have bought some cheaper ones if i could have seen exactly where to grind or just reweld them up. Problem is by the time i've bought them, shipped them, paid vat and duty the last thing you want to do is screw them up and have to buy more it was just a lot quicker. :)
