I'm getting alot of valvetrain chatter at idle from the passenger bank. This is a stock 5.0, what can I do to quiet it down? Thanks

I would put my money on the oil pump is dying or is dead and oil is not making it all the way up..

Or

The screen is clogged.

A bad lifter would be suprising. Ford lifters hardly ever go bad. It is not common especially the h.o. Roller lifters..

It can happen man..keep in mind the car is 14+ years old..

you can drain the oil...put 4 quarts in and 1 quart of lucas stabalizer..see if it helps.

Is there a way to test my oil pump? The gauge shows good pressure but that doesn't mean much with the stock gauges.

I would say when the motor is still cold about 40psi should be decent..

The last rebuild I did on my old 92 lx the car made 65psi cold, that was a fresh motor though..

It moves back and forth - like surging?

Is it a gauge indicating actual pressure(autometer) or the stock gauge?

That's why I recommended the lucas oil stabalizer.

It's pretty thick and might help..
